Do No Harm

Sadly repetitive. Story never catches up, and mechanics are boring. Really would like to love it.

A mid-priced game worth hours of play. Im only 4 in but the detail is fantastic. Devs layers come smooth as the game progresses and even able to redo each day out of the 30 if you wanted to change the outcome. Not sure so few hours in how many runs i'll take but for $15, i'll guess on story mode alone, 60 hours of fun.

I really liked this game, but I also have to caveat that it's not the smoothest to play. I love quirky sim games like this - strange horticulture/antiquities, trash goblin, restory, etc. - and when there's a lovecraftian elements, even better. This game has all the potential to be great - but it falls short in a few areas. 1. The instructions for how to use the diagnostic tools are INCREDIBLY confusing. The humor wheel in particular - while incredibly useful and a staple of my playthrough once I understood how to use it - was so confusingly explained, I needed to look up a reddit thread to help me parse it. This is due to the fact that the BASE mechanic - the dosage explanation - is incredible convoluted, making everything that follows difficult to parse through. Once you do, however, treating patients does become much easier and more fun - however, that does not cover for issue 2: 2. It's way too long. The story here is very similar in tone and setup as strange horticulture/antiquities, but whereas those two titles had very quick days and frequent 'events,' Do No Harm drags where it shouldn't. Fun game. The art is very nice, and gameplay is a nice kind of repetitive (though I can see some people not liking that). I've had a lot of fun with it so far and I do recommend it, though I feel my complaints over it are more helpful than any generic praise I could give. I feel the tutorials for a few items were a bit confusing, the humor wheel especially which I've yet to get a hang on, and trial and error with these aren't supported given that would (most likely) kill the patient. The game needs more accessibility options, especially one to reduce flashing or other screen effects. While they do have a warning at the start of the game for this it is the generic warning most video games have, and they don't have anything to account for it. They only added something to help deaf/hard of hearing players with an audio important section of the game around may this year, and I don't really see why they would account for arachnophobia in the settings but not flashing, which could fairly easily be lessened in a similar way by the developers. I like this game quite a bit, could use some tune ups with controls and clicking placements, perhaps ability to do just keybindings if possible but the art, story and gameplay is nice.
