Aces Under the Moonlight™

After following the channel for a few weeks, I decided to actually try the game. I'm used to early access and alpha testing but oh boy, this thing is rough buddy. [h1]The Good[/h1] The UI is stylish as hell. It's unapologeticly maximalist. This philosophy extends to the characters as well. You can tell the creator [strike]goons to his art[/strike] puts a lot of passion into every character movement. The emotes don't attempt to be serious and the game benefits from that. The game can be played with one hand, which i great for people like me that usually only has on hand functioning at a time. [h1]The Bad[/h1] The music. It's likely placeholder, but it's a little too repetitive. I was expecting stuff like increased tempo as the combo increases, a different melody at match point, etc. (Then again, I listen to breakcore and maidcore to sleep, so everything is slow paced to me). The movement is frankly terrible. Characters move slow and jump like obese toddlers. Dashing is OK, but it only applies in the air and mashing left or right nonstop aren't good for the wrists. The menus give me a migraine, character designs are nice but god does this not feel good to play... feels like I'm dragging the character rather than playing as them.

I genuinely try not to leave negative reviews, especially for indie games and projects still in development, but this was one of the worst experiences I've had. The gameplay is similar to *Lethal League*, but instead of hitting your opponent, the objective is to score by getting the ball into a small goal on the opposite side of the arena. The character designs are somewhat interesting, and their in-game artwork looks nice, but that's where my praise ends. The music is terrible, the menus are confusing and visually cluttered. I understand the aesthetic the developers were aiming for, but they prioritized style over functionality. The game only has a pause feature that freezes the screen and doesn't even let you quit the game. The camera zoom during matches is awful, and it feels like the art wasn't designed with gameplay readability in mind, since the linework is so thin that it's easy to mistake the characters for parts of the background. I also never felt like I had much control over the ball after throwing it. I like it. Extremely stylish character design, The UI's art direction feels very intentional, althrogh a tad confusing to get around. It isn't finished which is why there wasn't very much to do but I definitely see potention for a cool fighter game.

I thought this was a fighting game, but it's more like a volleyball game. nice concept, can't wait for the cool updates.
