Aircraft War is a poorly made vertical scrolling military themed arcade shoot 'em up/bullet hell game. I think this might have been a sincere attempt at making a game, it's not an asset flip as far as I can tell, it's just a terrible game. I'll go into the technical issues, but right off the bat this is a dead game... the control handling and hitboxes are laughably poor and clunky, there's zero polish in the game. I think this game single handedly causes damage to the entire genre just by existing. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamer…7 found this helpful
Aircraft War by DIG Games is a stripped-down 2D shooter that leans heavily on the foundations of classic arcade design, offering a simple and immediately accessible experience that rarely attempts to go beyond its basic premise. From the outset, the game places players in control of a small aircraft tasked with shooting down waves of enemies while dodging incoming fire, creating a familiar loop that recalls older vertical shooters and mobile-style arcade titles. It is easy to understand and quick to start, but that same simplicity defines both its strengths and its shortcomings. The gameplay revolves around a straightforward cycle of movement, shooting, and survival. Enemy planes appear in predictable formations, and the player must weave through projectiles while firing continuously to clear the screen. There is a light resource mechanic tied to fuel, which introduces a minor sense of urgency, encouraging players to complete objectives efficiently before running out. While this adds a small layer of pressure, it does not significantly change how the game is played, as success still depends primarily on reflexes rather than planning or adaptation. The structure remains consistent …1 found this helpful
I rather like this game. Sure, it has flaws (like can't the energy and health bars have a better contrast when filled than pale blue... it's visible OK when in critical red), or missiles coming at me from nowhere! The controls when playing mouse/keyboard are responsive, so overall there are some good ideas, well executed. Having to "reload" some upgrades for each scene is a bit tedious but not overly time consuming. The one thing that would be GREAT would be to choose the DLC set you want (if you have some) after launching the game (currently, you have to exit and re-launch using the editor), so you cannot play them "uninterrupted". I think this is a nice little project, and I've seen much worse with a bigger price tag.1 found this helpful
