Alone In The Forest VR

"Alone In The Forest VR" is a basic Unity asset flip, one of literally thousands of first person horror jumpscare asset flips plaguing Steam. This one is remarkable for two reasons. First, being significantly worse than all the others, and the second is an attempt at VR exclusivity, except it doesn't work very well with VR headsets. I guess there's two schools of thought on whether products should be tested before being published. All you do here is wander around and see if the pain of looking at all the crap assets ripped off from the budget end of the Unity Asset Store will get you before the jumpscare does. There's some mild puzzle solving, but they're too much of a challenge. By which I mean the game is so awful it's physically and mentally challenging to put yourself through playing it long enough to get to one of them. The game graphics look better than you might expect (but still awful), but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Alone In The Forest VR is a small-scale virtual reality horror game that uses a simple survival premise to create tension through darkness, exploration, puzzles, and pursuit. Developed and published by Ovidiu Chis, the game was released in 2018 as a free-to-play VR experience. Instead of relying on a complicated story or lengthy introduction, it places the player in an immediately troublesome situation. A car has broken down in the middle of an isolated forest, leaving the player stranded and in need of assistance. There is a telephone nearby that could provide a way out, but it cannot be used until power has been restored. This straightforward setup gives the game an understandable objective while allowing the unsettling forest environment to become the primary source of atmosphere. Restoring the telephone requires activating seven generators positioned throughout the forest. Each generator is connected to a puzzle that must be solved before the machine can be started.
