About AMPLITUDE: A Visual Novel

Story

The game's story begins in the year 2121, in a world where the majority of human populace exhibit mutated abilities. This is a harsh environment for those who have no power whatsoever, with tragedy arising in their lives for the simple fact that they are not 'special'. Death sometimes seems like mercy.

To restore balance and protect citizens, those under twenty are obliged to wear P.E.T. s (Personal Electronic Trackers) which monitor their activities at all times. This is how laws and morals are taught and enforced. While binding, the friendly personality of these devices ensures that they their permanent presence feels more like having a caring companion than a jailor.

It is in this world that you are born, raised... and killed. But your determination to live and finish your life's mission is too strong to diminish even after death, and it is with the aid of a mysterious otherworldly girl that you managed to return in the body of a dead teenager. Next time you make a pseudo-sequel to an obscure free visual novel that isn't even on steam or the developer's page, but is kinda important to understanding the worldbuilding and recurring characters, actually put that in the descriptions for crying out loud. PS: Lol good ending and true ending's difference is just around five lines of dialogue, you serious? PPS: The part where girl in boy's body finds out how painful a nut shot is was pretty funny tho.

Way better than the first game, tho if you havent played it b4 this 1 make sure you do otherwise u might not understand some things... its free anyway & you just need 2 complete 1 ending to understand this game (takes around 2 hours 2 complete) also some ppl complained about ihow u REALLY need 2 manage ur stats but honestly i had a easy time w/ stat management,..,.,,,,,.. also also idk bout the other endings but the one i got (true ending + my romance pick) was a bit of a let down on the romance,,,

If I'm being honest, the game itself is fine. I didn't happy with how it end to Eric, especially since he supposed to be our love interest, but I can live with it. ...UNTIL LINGERING CAME. And that basically why I give this one a thumb down as well.

AMPLITUDE is yet another instance where I would give more of an average rating if I could, alas, here we are. Story-wise, I liked the fact that you can play as male/female, explore different romances and endings. Now probably the 1st playthrough you'll be left with more questions than answers but the well-thought out aspect is that different endings will give you different perspectives towards the story and the characters that you meet along. There's the incentive for replayability. The visual novel itself sadly, as others have noted already, tries to do too much and doesn't implement anything really well. You have to work to get money, do quests, craft, raise your stats. By the end of any playthrough you'll be left with the feeling that you didn't have enough time to do everything that you wanted to do. The interface as a whole and navigating through the map is counter intuitive and cumbersome until you get used to it. There's some voice-acting here and there, the music is repetitive. Visuals are nothing to write home about, they're antiquated but they do the job. For 9 euro I think you could find better games to play, Visual Novel or otherwise, but taking into account the a…

Amplitude has a really interesting story. You get a bit more insight into the story as
Adam/Jon
than as
Eve/Katy
, though I'm unsure yet how much of each story exposition shifts if you select
Adam/Katy or Eve/Jon
as a combination. It seems as though certain elements are tied to Jon, others to Katy, some to Adam, and others to Eve. While the story is great, the text/writing...not so much. I'm not sure whether the game was written in another language and later translated, but many of the lines use incorrect verb tense and other grammatical errors that can sometimes make the conversations feel a bit stilted. In at least one place in Katy's route, there's a response that seems to be erroneously coded as Jon, which confused me, since at first, I thought that Jon overheard the conversation and jumped into it, since Katy had already met him at that point (I think it was a conversation with Cam). Likewise, there's one exchange on Jon's route, where his response is listed as Katy. That said, having read through poorly-translated-but-with-a-good-storyline VNs in the past, this wasn't a deal breaker for me. Crafting....I really like t…
