Campy, Irreverent, and Stereotypical dialogue makes this game a hoot to listen to as you play. It is a very good space battle tactical game. I played both sides all the way through ad am starting next level harder. Worth your time if you like turn based space battle games.4 found this helpful
The game has excellent bones, looks good, and has good gameplay. Just one weird glaring issue, the initiative system. somehow the initiative system makes it where units can often double turns and several units can attack multiple times. in several missions I have had units get completely destroyed from full health and shields after engaging one enemy unit because my unit moves in and attacks, then the enemy unit attacks then gets to activate before my unit in the next turn to destroy it.1 found this helpful
Not exactly bad - but unfortunately not good, either.
Really nice graphics. You can zoom in quite close to the detailed ship models and the special effects are charming. I especially like the rail gun for how simple and still good its animation looks - epic even, if you understand its RL physics. Also, they published free DLC (that was actually good) several months after launch which in itself is really awesome, if you compare it to how 99% of greedy developers/publishers nowadays treat their player base. Now, with the only redeeming factors out of the way let's get on with the actual review: Ancient Frontier isn't a bad game per se - it's just sooooo mediocre that I in best faith and conscience can't give it a positive rating. Ancient Frontier commits the capital sin of being completely and utterly boring and underwhelming. If it were bad, I at least could passionately hate it; instead it's just disappointing. Don't get me wrong: There are definitely worse games, but there are also so many better games that deserve a better rating than Ancient Frontier. Sorry, Fair Weather Studios, but my hands are tied... The boringness begins with the most …1 found this helpful
Wow, what an amazing little game, yes there was a inital issue of game design where the save files where in the Registry, but the developers listen to the community and fixed it. If you found Sid Meier's Starships okm good or fun, well this is 10X times better. I can't fault anything with it.
This game is crap!
Good to scratch that space, hex, turn-based, strategy game itch when you've played everything else.
