There is no reason to play this game. Its sequel Endless Space 2 is much better at every aspect. This game is outdated in many regards. The only good thing about this game is its soothing music. It is Amplitude Studios’ first attempt at creating a Turn Based Strategy in set in space, similar to Master Of Orion series. Developers are clearly fans of the mentioned series, and they have experience of playing those games, so, how come they did not improve upon the original idea of Master Of Orion is beyond me. Anyway, Endless Space 2 does everything better than this one. There is no point in spending money and time on this. Sequel has better research tree, which is much clearer, and has better visual representation. Sequel has better resource system, which clearly indicates the number of various exploited resource types, and there is a market to sell the surplus. This game does not have inventory dedicated to the resources available, it just takes them into account that they are present in the system, and if the planet is colonized they are being exploited. With the Definitive Edition including all major expansions, the game offers countless hours of strategic gameplay and remains one of the strongest entries in the 4X genre.
If you like strategy games, this one has a lot going for it so far. I have only played on normal difficulty to date but as I go I learn more, so later I will give a another review...maybe. :)
I really enjoyed the lore of this game, the universe, and the music but the combat is really bad and detracts from the game a lot so I can't recommend it.
