About Archon Classic
Inspired by chess, but adding combat that YOU control, Archon was the original Battle Chess. You must try to outmaneuver your opponent using teams of fantasy creatures or monsters in this epic struggle of Light and Dark. On the chess board, when you challenge a piece, you are teleported into a Combat Arena where you fight in REAL-TIME until only the victor emerges to claim the square on the chess board. Conquer your opponent by defeating all of their pieces on the chess board or claim all the Power Squares for a quick victory! You can play Free-For-All mode, where it's everyone for themselves, or play using teams and gang up on your opponents pieces in battle (2 vs. 1.)

Loved the NES version back in the day, this just builds on it. Great game. People expecting this to be Chess or Chess-like are in fora system shock. Try it, it's fun. Best played with a controller. I use a PS5 controller with Steam Controller Input enabled. Works fine.1 found this helpful

This game was why I started a Steam account. I still love this game on my Atari 8-Bit 130XE machine and I couldn't be happier with this new variation. Super fun, visually just right. I only wish they had all the classic variations included as well- but it's honestly not needed. I love how they upgraded it. I would have payed several hundred dollars for this game. This along with GODS remaster is why I'm a Steam User. I play it with a wireless Xbox controller. I encounter some slow load times and I do battle a bit with the menu, but when the game is on, it's a blast! :)
This is a great return to a classic game. Chess with fighting pieces! Wish we had a board we can make ourselves and that the game always ran without lag
i wanted to give this game a fair shot, i really did, but the game didn't let me. the game crashed whenever I tried to get into a game, or even just the tutorial. Find another way to play Archon, cause this isn't it.
