It actually has a plot.

It has its perks, it has its charm, the art style though dated (It was released in 2017, but so was DDLC so no excuse), has a certain flavor to it. The Girls in this game, though only 3, are remarkably different and yet all have something in common: They are all stuck with you after the counselor ends up in a fatal car accident. It is now up to you and the gals to survive the trek out of the woods you were left in, and get there safely. This VN has a lot going for it, heck, I would say if you did not skip seen choices for different endings like I did, you would easily be in the 10 hour mark for total story here. HOWEVER, I will say, the game does have some good and bad qualities that may steer how you get this game and/or play it. Army Gals is a choice-driven visual novel developed and published by Dharker Studios, released on Steam in 2017. The game blends elements of romance, survival drama, and branching storytelling into a narrative-focused experience centered around character interactions and player decisions. While it follows the structure typical of many visual novels—reading dialogue and making choices that influence the outcome—it attempts to distinguish itself by placing the characters in a wilderness survival scenario rather than the usual school or slice-of-life settings commonly seen in the genre. The result is a story that alternates between relationship-building moments and tense situations where the group must deal with isolation and uncertainty. The story follows Kyle, a young man who has been labeled a troublemaker and sent to a disciplinary outdoor retreat designed to teach responsibility through survival training. Not great, but that's what you get with Dharker Studios. Looks very meh, character designs are pretty generic, music sounds like stock stuff, but gets the job done. The story has some fun stuff in it, but wasn't entirely well thought out for the number of routes and endings, and overall is fairly lacklustre.

Great game to play with one hand! ...Because my other hand is being nibbled on by a bear, and I am stuck in a bear trap.

6/10. I really liked the "straightforward" writing, story setting, choices, and some of the h-scenes, but there's a painful amount of bad endings and (more negatively) experimentation to get the very specific combinations of choices that are required to reach the "better" and "good" endings. I used a guide after getting a couple bad endings in a row (and was apparently set towards bad endings from early choices), and it still felt like a chore to reach the better endings, and often only provided a mixed feeling of satisfaction with other negative emotions. Can't recommend this one, but I liked the dev's art style and am looking forward to trying Maid Cafe and their other titles (with less dreary settings) in the near future.
