Disclaimer: I got the game for free from the solo dev on Reddit. He kindly offered it to those interested in testing the game, without expecting anything in return. Now that I've beaten the game, I felt that posting a review would be the least I could do! Does it mean my review is biased? Not at all! Spoiler alert: the game is well worth the price. Not quite sure how to describe Astronium, other than saying it plays like a Metroidvania, progression and world-wise, with Souls-Like combat and retro aesthetics. I played the game on my Steam Deck, and I'm happy to report that the controller support works well. The game's key features include:

Metroidvania-style world map with interconnected areas to explore
Weapons with stats and special attacks
Upgradable weapons
Monsters with different attack patterns
Bosses
One thing to note is that the game requires a lot of backtracking and moving within the levels, which can be a bit tedious at times. The character doesn't move super quickly, and the levels are pretty big, so it can take some time to get around. Additionally, traveling around the world map can get a bit tedious after a while, since there are very…1 found this helpful

Very good game for what it cost. Love the pixel graphics. This game is a good foundation if the developer wants to expand more on it in the future1 found this helpful
It's a pretty fun, short game to play for a bit, but there are a few things i think could make it better: slight spoilers - Weapon Storage System I think this could make the game a bit better for a few reasons. When i was playing, I got the scythe weapon that drops in the ice zone, and upgraded it a bit. I used this weapon for a while, then I swapped it out for the blue halberd you get in the beach zone, which felt like a downgrade, but since i swapped it, the scythe was lost. I then had to farm for probably 30-60 minutes on and off to get it back again. Considering one of the main parts of the game is your weapons, it feels like you have to make sacrifices if you want to try new weapons, as if you get a new one, you gotta upgrade it to the same level as the last to see how it compares, and if the old weapon was better, or you liked it more, you gotta farm for it again. It wouldn't have to be complex, but maybe just a few storage slots could help, alternatively, maybe each weapon could be permanently unlocked and equipped from the fire? - Boss confusion During my time playing, I went straight from the forest boss (first area), to the beach boss (final area). This happened be…1 found this helpful
A fun, fairly short but challenging little soulslike! It wasn't always the most clear where I was meant to go (particularly with the key that can randomly drop from enemies in the ice zone and some of the keys not being clear what doors they do and don't unlock) so I ended up doing things a bit out of order and breezing through some of the earlier bits with a way-too-strong weapon, but it was fun! I really like the system of needing to defeat enemies in order to be able to potentially get a stronger weapon, and it's cool that there's a variety of different types of weapons for you to choose from!
Pretty fun little soulslike. The combat takes a little getting used to but once you do it flows really nicely.
