What Steam players say

Weird. Thought I reviewed this game. Oh well. Suffice it to say the dev thinks very highly of himself and is rude for no reason. Both are undeserved and unwarranted. Just give your money to a different turn-based tactics game—there’s no shortage of better ones on Steam. Even picking at random you’d be likely to land on such a game.4 found this helpful
Athena Crisis - Turn Based Strategy, is a spiritual successor to Advance Wars. I really enjoyed this game at first. It has some similar gameplay mechanics and adds in way more units. But also some changes that makes the game a lot more challenging compared to Advance Wars games which I was able to beat without any guides. For Athena Crisis I got stuck in the campaign and had to resort to guided to beat a few missions then realized this game is not fun anymore. Some missions the enemy has overpowered units like zombies that steal your units via infection including tanks and battleships, how on earth does a zombie bite or scratch infect a tank or battleship? Your cities and bases do not hesl your units or resupply them. And the bases do not contribute to your economy. I know not everyone wants an easy game but I like to relax with my videogames. Well I got my nostalgia kick from the game and enjoyed the beginning of the campaign at least.4 found this helpful
Every map is made so tight and limited, you have to play a certain way, retrying after you see every turn the enemy does to gain cheesy "future turn information" which undermines the gameplay a lot rather than letting you have a battle. You'll find yourself forced into situations where you have to go fast because mission wants you to, making sloppy play versus pre-deployed better units as the source of difficulty. Each mission plays out more like a puzzle rather than a Wars game mission where there you build and win however you designed, while here you must win how the mission was designed. Also computer cheats in missions? somehow producing strong units with a 1/4 the income I had, not sure what that was about. Units movements are too far in many maps, causing several bad feelings: -Map size feels deceptive, everything is much smaller than it first appears. units will move across it in just a couple turns. -It is hard to design a defense in this game when their entire army from downtown can drive up and break your formations or even drive all the way around your block formation from sheer movement There is a weird amount of seemingly unnecessary customization and every unit has …
If you liked Advance Wars, this will definitely hit the spot. It’s really fun and challenging, with a refreshed look, some interesting new units, and an enjoyable campaign.
Amazing game. Feels like a modern advance wars. The option for mobile and async play takes things to a new level.
Very fun advance wars inspired game with addicting gameplay, but I have a few issues with it. First off the soundtrack in game (except the main menu theme which i feel is very boring and uninspired) is great but there's only a few songs per biome, the main menu really sucks there's like 10 trillion buttons and i think they should have just had a few more sub menus to not make the main one so cluttered. I don't really like how the factions don't really have much personality unlike advance wars where each faction was very distinct. This is mostly because this game also doesn't have any unique commanders like advance wars does, instead each unit has a unique leader with their own personality but you only ever see that personality in dialog that plays before and after campaign missions. Idk man the leaders are kinda cool but I definitely prefer commanders, but at least they tried something new. also the zombie unit in fog of war makes me want to die that ♥♥♥♥ is genuinely the most annoying unit in the game especially on maps that have no air, or no naval units. anyway the core gameplay is really good its just the things that surround it are kind of flawed.
