PC options are severely lacking. Rebinding keyboard controls was an exercise in frustration. Would recommend the mobile release over this.3 found this helpful
It's kind of amusing, but the amount of sheer button mashing gets boring quick. The winning strategy is to turn on damage modifiers in the accessibility settings because I really doubt anyone got to the end of it some other way. It's not too bad, but also nothing special worth recommending.2 found this helpful
Barbearian is a solid "hack and slash" - "beat'em'up" game. It also has a touch of old arcade games. I liked the graphics. The story and sound are mediocre. The forte of this game is the gameplay. It's a simple, entertaining, addictive, straightforward skill based game. Good variety of enemies, you upgrade your char and your soldiers with money, you collect powerups and special weapons. What is impressive is the sheer amount of enemies on the maps, especially when you enter the second half of the story. It fabricates some epic brawls and a hectic, adrenalinic experience. It's challenging. There is only 1 difficulty mode but you can modify it nicely with the damage received - meter. Frankly, after a while I lowered it to 75% damage received, and in some boss fights to 50% damage recieved. But it's ok, I saw some people playing on you tube with 10% damage received, so I'm satisfied with how I managed to beat the game.1 found this helpful
Good stuff: Pretty well balanced and fairly intense combat. Both in regular missions and boss fights. Solid art and VFX. Old-school styled explore and discover mentality that works well. Not so great stuff: Pretty annoying menu and map music (high pitched and repetitive) Very linear character and story progression. The final grind to get the good/true ending is a bit much.1 found this helpful
OK, picture this. You are a warrior who has to kill hordes of very simple enemies which are commanded by bigger versions of this. YOU have an army that follows you as well, they die, you need to revive them. You have one melee weapon and you can unlock ranged weapons. The game never offered something fun or remarkable other than the nauseating music which doesnt match the viking/barbarian feel (its more like a game show music, in loop, ALWAYS and EVERYWHERE. I WAS gonna finish it out of the need to see things through, but the boss you see in the pictures at the store page is a damage sponge with infinite minions, and 3 stages, no healing available AND no ranged weapon, not difficult, just too annoying for the little entertainment (if any at all) the game provided. I have a Steam list called "when nothing else remains"... thats where this is going
Not worth the price.
