Maybe I'm being too old for that sort of game, but spending half of the time at two centimeters of my screen to be able to see something as the sun is setting is getting very frustrating quickly. There is no real option allowing you to see properly, you don't have a lamp and your character is too dump to use one branch and the fire to make a torch. As a result, you're doomed to spend most of the time running around with only the road as landmark and hope you'll find enough wood to fill that box to the brim.
Some advices to be able to survive :
- Branch and beam large enough to support a house give the same quantity of wood. - Look for wood in between road first. When night will fall, you'll have the easy part of the search left (looking right and left of the road). - Feed the fire with 20 wood clickies the first time you get back with your stack (and cold) full. The second time 10/15 shall suffice to last until the night come. - You'll need around 3 stacks full to fill that box to the brim. That's a lot of wood and a lot of back and forth. - There are trees around, but you forgot your hatchet, I guess you also forgot the key to the house and that's why you're trying to m…

Even the menus don't work properly. This can't even be considered a proper game.

Bundles of sticks and twigs to be used for fire as far as the eye can see.

This game does exactly what it sets out to do - nothing more, nothing less. It's a short challenge that'll take you probably an hour and half, in which time you've likely both beaten the game and gotten all five achievements. The game isn't trying to be Rust or something else, it's just a simple, singular survival challenge: Make sure you have enough wood stockpiled to last through the night! If your wood crate is full, and the fire is still going when night comes, you win. Simple as that. And it's a fun challenge, for the duration. Worth the asking price. That said, there are some improvements that could be made: * A compass or more recognizable landmarks, so as not to get so easily lost. (I see many complain about getting lost.) * Saving the settings, so they do not reset with every game. * Less motion blur, to make it less frustrating to miss firewood when moving about. * Make firewood stand out against the vegetation a bit more, because they blend together, and as soon as it gets a little bit dark it's just indistinctive black against black. * Some grammar fixes. I would also mention that it's probably better to play the somewhat easier "Before Nightfall: Summer" first, the…

Before Nightfall is a survival-focused indie title developed and published by Pickle Drugs, built around a straightforward concept that transforms limited mechanics into a tense and focused challenge. Rather than expanding into large crafting systems, combat encounters, or open-world exploration, the game takes a more stripped-down approach to survival design. It places players into a freezing wilderness where success depends on preparation, awareness, and managing limited resources under constant environmental pressure. The premise immediately establishes urgency. Players awaken within a harsh winter landscape where cold temperatures are not simply environmental decoration but the primary threat standing between survival and failure. The objective sounds simple enough on paper: gather enough firewood, keep a campfire burning, and survive until darkness arrives. However, the simplicity of those goals becomes deceptive as the game gradually reveals how much pressure can emerge from limited time and dangerous conditions. The forest environment plays a major role in shaping the experience. Snow-covered terrain and harsh weather conditions create a setting that constantly reinforces …
