Before The Green Moon offers a refreshingly grounded take on the farming sim genre that players praise for its atmospheric world-building, genuinely human characters, and introspective pacing that prioritizes meaningful choices over grinding or optimization. The game's deliberate departure from the genre's typical coziness—featuring labor-intensive farming, an unsettling aesthetic, and a melancholic undertone about leaving Earth—resonates with players seeking something more emotionally complex and less escapist than traditional farming sims. However, the game's repetitive nature and slower, mo
Before The Green Moon, developed and published by Turnfollow, is a farming and life simulation game that initially presents itself with familiar genre elements but gradually reveals a far more subdued and introspective identity. Set in a quiet, somewhat desolate world beneath a towering space elevator, the game frames its central objective with unusual clarity: earn enough money to leave Earth and travel to the moon. This simple goal casts a long shadow over the entire experience, turning everyday routines into steps toward a distant and uncertain future. At its core, the gameplay revolves around farming, but it deliberately strips away much of the convenience and comfort typically associated with the genre. Growing crops is not just a relaxing activity here—it is labor-intensive and often demanding. Players must manage planting, watering, and harvesting with a level of manual involvement that can feel repetitive, especially as environmental conditions change. When rainfall becomes scarce, the burden of maintaining crops increases significantly, forcing players to actively transport water and manage their time more carefully. This emphasis on effort and routine gives the game a gr…2 found this helpful
I suppose this game might fit a certain kind of gamer's taste, but not mine, I'm afraid. Note that I don't think the game is inherently bad, but I found the grind to get really old, really fast. The little time and energy available for performing your tasks and getting to know your surroundings makes the day/night cycle frustrating (when you get shipped back to your living room moments before starting a conversation or reaching a new area), and it feels at times that I'm being punished for my wish to explore or perform my duties. This game might be for you, but it isn't for me.
Didn't go in expecting much, but I ended up finding myself having a very fun time in what feels like a both "slow but streamlined" post apocalypse farming sim. The characters are pretty charming and everyone feels very human, not written up to feel memorable or quirky, they're just... people. Very repetitive, so keep that in mind, it may not be for you! It is definitely for me <3
Wonderfully atmospheric game that really captured the awkwardness of transitional stages while also really feeling like you get to connect with the funny little community. I'm generally a huge fan of farming sims, which has often meant making my peace with enjoying a genre that's often quite idyllic and escapist in some, at times, troubling ways; Before the Green Moon absolutely rose up to existing in this genre in a way that is neither overwhelmingly bleak nor all sunshine and rainbows. The farmer has to do labor. It's difficult to maintain a farm through different seasons. Yet it's less about time management (Dandori?) and achieving your full capitalist potential, and more about reaching the smaller goals you set. Made me feel the impact of my choices and how I spend my time in such a way I still haven't been able to bring myself to technically finish the game.
it looks awkward, but the characters and the little slow moments are much better than most other games in the farm sim genre. It's unsettling, it's strange, the colors are ugly, the models are uncanny, but it is deeply human
"she feels a purpose she never had down here" 💖🖤🖤 🟩 really neat atmosphere and visual storytelling 🔷 simple gameplay 🔴 didn't really hit for me vibes: melancholic loops: farm, talk to people, earn enough money for a ticket to the moon ramblings: i want to like this game more than i actually do, liked the atmosphere and i liked what it was going for. the environmental storytelling was great. just this rundown abandoned little place that really feels left behind with its last remaining value being extracted and exploited. i loved the small things like how whenever the tourists from the moon came by as this uncaring sightseeing horde i just felt like it was an annoying invasion. the themes and what i think at least the game was trying to tell and make you feel with its story is something i like. the characters seem interestingly written. the issue is that i just ended up not connecting to really any of them or caring much at all, so the whole thing just fell really kind of flat for me. verdicts: i think it's worth a play, i liked it, i could easily see one loving it, but it just didn't really affect me much in the way i wish it had. [b…
