Beyond the Doors (2026)

As a huge fan of VotV, I think this game is worth a shot if you enjoy it, it very much feels like the older versions of the game, around 0.5.0-0.6.0, but still does pretty well at being its own thing, only issue with it I've had is just like VotV, the performance kinda sucks, so keep that in mind if the game interests you.

I don't really want to compare it to Voices of the Void. I went into it like "oh obviously it's inspired but it's trying to do it's own thing," but then as I was playing it's like. Oh this UI is pretty familiar, and the layout of the email terminal, and the layout of the store... They're asking me to send hashes by email every day huh? My first task is to clean the base. Man, even this sleeping screen where it's just a still shot of the base while you watch the sky change is the same... So basically it's so dead-set on being VotV indoors, that even if you're actively trying to ignore the similarities it'll beat you over the head with them until you acknowledge it. It's to the games detriment, if only because you don't really want to encourage people to compare your game to another game the entire time they're playing it. This game is still fun, and mechanically it feels like its own thing. I think calling it a VotV clone or wannabe is fundamentally misunderstanding what it is trying to do, even with as many similarities as is has. Going to leave a quick review since I've only put one proper play session in, I'll update this if anything changes. This IS an alpha game, after all. Overall I'm having a lot of fun with it. I don't feel like it's especially difficult due to how generous it is with food after a certain event being completed, and the daily tasks aren't especially taxing. Maybe that could be tweaked a little. Obviously, the game resembles Voices of the Void. I don't think there's any denying that. I do hope that this game shifts a bit more into its own unique style eventually, but even as is, it's a fairly interesting experience. As for annoyances... moving around heavy objects like shelves is irritating. Trying to pick up objects is a bit wonky due to the hitbox being small or not quite matching the visual shape and size. The flashlight, probably by choices, is VERY dim. And... it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out how to fix lights (you HOLD left click, btw). overall my thoughts on it are positive. def needs some polish since the gameplay loop is a tiny bit lacking though. your money kinda snowballs as soon as you get all the upgrades and then the game kinda just turns into simplified Viscera Cleanup Detail since all there is to do is clean. I'd also personally like to see more world building too, since as it stands its kinda feels like stuff just *happens* with very little rhyme or reason. I def see the potential though, and i really think it can become something special with enough grit and effort.

This is like Echoed Howls From Empty Space rather than Voices Of The Void but I will take it. Extremely barebones but the bones present are about as what you would expect from what's pictured. I don't necessarily recommend it right now unless you want to stake the ground and wait for what's coming next in development. There were a couple really cool events (that I won't be specific about) that I thought were actually cool, I think the gameplay loop and the environment as they currently stand are a bit soul draining. I think as a whole the game can only really can appeal to people who are wildly into VoTV to where they won't think much about it. It's a cool take on the formula though and honestly it mimics the aesthetics of Voices to a concerningly close degree, there really just isn't much at all going on with it at the moment, and I'm scared as time goes on it may actually become beyond bloated with how simplistic the environment and gameplay loop is. It's close but it's missing a LOT, but even then I absolutely respect just how well so many things were translated over for inspiration, whiie definitely being a different experience..
