Absolutely rules. You do have to treat it as kind of a mysterious game, since it's translated *and* it's deeply about the culture it's translated from, but if you have any kind of an interest in Russian folk traditions and Christianity and paganism and syncretism you're probably gonna want to buy in at full price. On the flipside, if you're Christian and not super comfy with the occult you may have an Extra Bad time here. Or you might be fine. It's a testament to how strong the writing and atmosphere are that I got some goosebumps, in a way I didn't from Faith. In Black Book you play as an apprentice witch whose lover was believed to have committed suicide, and so was denied a Christian burial, condemning them to hell. The only reasonable way to fish him out is by entering into a pact with the devil to crack some seals on an old book, and right away Black Book starts to show some nuance. It does use words like evil, but it's surprisingly slow to judge. Demons are compelled by their nature. People are driven by desires and by trauma. Witches are defined by their pacts with things. Never elsewhere played such an interesting mix of folklore and gameplay. Perfect witchy setting, engaging RBG and fun deck crafting.

Very fun card-based RPG with really awesome aesthetics and setting.

I would rec this only on a significant sale. I played through three chapters on the harder but not hardest difficulty. I was going the "evil" route, which I think is also easier. The game is overall too easy. The voice acting is mid. But for a small price, it is fun. There are a good number of different decks you can make. The story is pretty boring, sometimes repetitive, and consequently drags. Main gripe is simply just with how easy it is.

This game is clearly made with a lot of love and attention. I like the story, the writing, the charcters, however I am not sure if Russian knowledge is required for enjoyment. Yeah, the card battler part is take it or leave it, but completely breaking the system is somewhat fun.

It's basically a Russian folklore setting [which is fun and unique] combined with Slay the Spire-style card battles. I didn't find it particularly hard but I had fun.
