About Brave Mouse Cartographer Trilogy

DEFINITIVE EDITION - FOUR YEAR ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION RERELEASE

It’s a wide world out there. A brave mouse can’t do much but hold on and pay attention—but sometimes just paying attention is enough.

Every landscape has a story, and it’s your job to tell it. BRAVE MOUSE CARTOGRAPHER is a series of ambient systems designed to serve as the jumping off points for player expression. As sections of the map are revealed, players can translate findings as drawings onto whatever medium they like outside of the game — paper, drawing software, wet cement, crop circles — whatever you like!
  • At your own pace — The bird waits for no one, so the pressure is off! Tune in and out at your leisure, engaging as much or as little at any given moment as you feel like.
  • Lush generative soundscapes — Carefully handcrafted loops fading in and out at the whims of random movement make for a constantly fresh and surprising aural experience.
  • Express yourself — No two eyes see the world the same way; the map you make of the world you see reflects your self as much as it does your environment. Compare yours with your friends, or combine them and see what you get!
  • The more the merrier — The perfect low-stakes cooperative game for a group of any size, from an intimate stream to a bustling festival to any sized party in between.

Witness the triumphant return of the BRAVE MOUSE CARTOGRAPHER franchise in this definitive special collection edition!

It's not really a game from the player's point of view, no gameplay (ESC is the only button in the game). It's a pure performance game, an absolute indie that gets awards that are hard to google. There are three games in the trilogy, so three maps in three different visual styles: pixelated 2D, early 3D, more modern 3D. On the screen we see a top-down view, the camera is centered on a mouse flying on an eagle, which changes direction completely randomly. As the name suggests, this mouse is a cartographer, so the only thing the player can do is make a map in his notebook or print out the manual and use pages 10 and 11. To get achievements, turn on the game and wait for the eagle to fly over certain points in each part (it turns out the author violated his philosophy by adding achievements). The author in the manual gives examples of how to play it, but I do not think that anyone will appreciate it (you can read the manual on the page in STEAM or on the page ITCHIO or on the fourth point in the game). You can use it instead of a screensaver.

Brave Mouse Cartographer Trilogy is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this "art experience". Instead of being a game, Brave Mouse Cartographer Trilogy is a software application that presents a poorly made art exhibition. The idea behind this bit of "art" is you watch a bird flapping over some terrain at high altitude, and for fun, you get a bit of paper and draw what it flies over and make your own map. When I was a kid, I made maps of Pool of Radiance for PC and that was a lot of fun because, well, the game didn't ship with a map or have an automap or minimap so you had to know your way around or make your own map. That was kind of fun. This is not even a game. There's no reward or interest in watching it. Heck, it even looks ugly. We get this non-game shovelware on Steam whenever your usual Starbucks barista/McDonalds frycook art school dropout finally gets a restraining order from the local art galleries so turns to Steam Direct to try get their art published somewhere so they can finally dream of moving out of their parents basement. It's true that games can be art... art is where the pinnacles of craftsmans…
