No…
The most important thing to say is that the movement feels great. I was whelmed by the sight and sound of it, but that's obviously a matter of personal taste. My any% run felt slightly harder to me than the any% on Celeste's A-sides; that comparison is approaching apples and oranges territory though.
Amaze, amaze, amaze
A solid, really well polished platformer. My only (minor) gripe is that the hitboxes could be slightly more forgiving.
Before I fell in love with console gaming, I was obsessed with Flash web games. Planted to the chair in the computer room, Diner Dash and Bloxorz were always on an Internet Explorer tab on the chunky Dell monitor. Even now, I look back on this era with nostalgia, the quirks and poor design choices of these titles not subject to the criticism I’d give a contemporary AAA title. Still, no one had as much personality as Nitrome. The house style of their library of pixel platformers and puzzlers was recognizable at a glance. The way these looked, sounded, and played were all part of Nitrome’s brand identity. Bzzzt feels like the spiritual successor to these Nitrome games. From its short, stocky pixel art and bouncy visual effects to its tight controls. Everything here is a whimsical treat. It’s fun to look at, so it can come at a surprise with how difficult this game can be. If you take damage, you’ll return to the start of the level. While realizing you’re going to be replaying a level for a while can be brutal, it’s underscored in the game’s UI at the end, which detracts and insults: if you don’t finish a level within a certain amount of time or obtain all of the collectibles in a …
This was a phenomenal little platformer! I usually am not into these type of games but this has def made its way to one of my top platformers. For the most part it has a great difficulty ramp, and enemy designs making it very easy to understand what they can and cannot do. The art design in this games beautiful too, it genuinely surprised me how amazing everything is animated. Its fairly short, being 2 hours to get to the credits but I honestly like that, I am glad that it doesn't go on for too long and if you really want there is about 25 bonus levels to unlock through completing perfect runs of levels. The criticisms I do have are very sparse, but one is some very select enemy placement/designs. There is a new enemy type that appears in a fairly long level near the end and it doesn't give you time to understand what he does before he kills you. The other example is there is a mode you acquire that turns certain enemies blue, which means that cant harm you, except for one that for some reason does. Its the only time that blue trick happens in the entire game so its a tiny complaint.
