Caketomino

Let me start off by saying I hate leaving negative reviews, especially when at the time of writing this, I will have the only review. My play time of this game is very short. I played for maybe 10 minutes and struggled with everything. The controls need a lot of work. Using two buttons to do anything makes it hard to move or use the pointer accuately. Grabbing items in this game is quite difficult. Its very buggy and works maybe half the time. Usually you end up grabbing the wrong thing. Also, the grabbing animation for the hand is very broken. Overall, quite hard to play. I got this game in a bundle, so I'm not out any money and not upset. I would love to see this game get the attention it need. I love puzzle games of this design.

Caketomino takes a familiar shape-fitting puzzle concept and gives it a playful virtual reality makeover centered on cakes. Developed and published by Smoketree Studios, this 2016 release is deliberately small in scope, focusing on spatial reasoning rather than story, exploration, combat, or complicated progression systems. Its premise is immediately understandable: manipulate geometric pieces and figure out how they fit together to complete a series of cake-shaped arrangements. The simplicity works in its favor when treated as a casual VR puzzle experience rather than something intended to provide dozens of hours of content. The game contains 30 puzzles constructed around Pentomino and other Polyomino shapes. Each challenge asks the player to determine how differently shaped pieces can occupy the available space without leaving impossible gaps. The basic rules are easy to grasp, but completing an arrangement can require more thought than the colorful presentation initially suggests. Placing one piece incorrectly may not create an obvious problem until several moves later, at which point rearranging the board becomes necessary. This was one of those early games in the VR cycle. It was an interesting game that wasn't great to control, and often left me more frustrated than anything else.
