Cards of Fortune is a really interesting mix of genres, and I was surprised by how well the different ideas fit together. It combines deckbuilding, roguelike progression, bullet hell combat and real time strategy into a cooperative adventure. I liked the feeling of entering each new room without knowing exactly what I was going to face, because it keeps me thinking about both my cards and my positioning at the same time. The main gameplay revolves around playing spell cards while dealing with enemies flying around the screen. Mana and health management are both important, so I cannot simply throw out every powerful spell whenever I want. Winning encounters gives me opportunities to improve my deck, and I enjoyed trying to build something that worked well with the situation I was in. The bullet hell side also adds another layer because I still need to move carefully and avoid attacks while deciding what card to use. The cooperative design is probably one of my favorite parts. Working together makes the combat feel much more tactical, especially when the screen starts filling with enemies and attacks. I like that the game does not completely separate the card mechanics from the act…
