It's basically Wii Tanks if you remember that. Even the music is like Wii Tanks. Differences are it moves slower and you get your hp reset at the start of every level. And it's zoomed in. I'd have liked the view to be wider and to see more of the map. The AI is better than Wii Tanks and I think the levels are better designed too. AI moves around well and I had some pretty decent shootouts with it. It's better than I expected. No bugs, it's smooth. It's actually a pretty decent free casual game.

Catanks is a ridiculously cute take on classic tank games, and I had a lot more fun with it than I expected. The basic idea is simple because I am controlling a cat piloting a tank, but the game manages to make that old school combat feel surprisingly fresh. I liked the contrast between the adorable characters and the explosive battles. The main campaign takes me through a series of levels filled with rodent enemies and dangerous environmental objects. The combat has a clear arcade feeling, with me moving around the battlefield, lining up shots and trying to deal with enemies before they overwhelm me. I enjoyed how easy it is to understand the basics while still needing to think about where I am positioned. The third person perspective is a nice change from the usual top down tank format. It gives the battles a stronger sense of movement and makes aiming feel more immediate. I also liked that the game has a separate mode focused on surviving waves of explosive opponents, because it gives the combat a different pace from the structured campaign. Paw-sitively fun! Nostalgic tanks game packed with cat & mouse theme. Had to speed the game up to 2X speed though.
