About Caverns of Mars: Recharged
Caverns of Mars: Recharged takes the easy, addictive appeal of the original game and adds more caverns, more challenges, more weapons, modern graphics and leaderboards. And it would not be a Recharged title without an amazing new original soundtrack.
In Caverns of Mars: Recharged you descend into tunnels beneath the surface of Mars in a mad dash to destroy the reactor and furthest depths of the enemy’s base. Dodge debris, clear out obstacles, and blast enemies, all while conserving ammunition as you descend at high speed into enemy territory. Your ammo is limited and enemies are plentiful, so make every shot count.

Key Features
- Fully Destructible Environments: Blast your way through obstructions, but be mindful of fuel reserves -- each shot also accelerates your limited time to reach the bottom
- Arcade: Traverse the three depths of Mars in a race to reach the bottom and destroy the reactor, strategically accumulating upgrades that’ll make each run unique.
- Challenge Mode: Progress through 30 unique missions that ramp up the difficulty and deliver bite-sized challenges across navigation, combat, and other scenarios.
- Power Ups: Collect weapons that will change your strategy on the fly. Carve a new path with the focused railgun shot or leverage the spread of rapid shotgun blasts.
- Local Co-op: In a unique spin on the gameplay, split the responsibilities while one player navigates and the other shoots from a separate drone in tow.

Morlan's shorts:

Fun, addictive game with modern retro-graphics, meaning they look kind of retro-ish but they're updated to look fresh. The gameplay is solid, nice music and matching sound effects, the movement is smooth and the keys are responsive, which takes us to the negative review reason: There is no way to reconfigure the keys! Even the ZX Spectrum in the 80s had this option in many many many of its games. How do you code a game in this day and age without this option? Seems as if the devs know how to code a game but never went through the gaming process.. As in.. they don't play games! Yep that IS the reason it gets a negative vote. If they fix it, I'll fix it.. I doubt it, though, as the game hasn't got but one manifest change i.e. it was never updated after the initial release. Don't waste more time reading lengthy reviews.. time is of the essence!2 found this helpful
⭐ Fast, Addictive, and Packed with Arcade Energy

🇺🇸 Review (English) ⭐ A Modern Arcade Shooter That's Hard to Put Down 🎮 First Impressions Caverns of Mars: Recharged grabs your attention almost immediately. Its core concept is straightforward—pilot your ship through dangerous underground caverns while blasting enemies and avoiding hazards—but the polished execution makes every run exciting. It's the kind of game that constantly convinces you to play "just one more round." 🔥 Gameplay The controls are responsive, the pacing is relentless, and every run keeps you engaged. Managing your ammunition, dodging obstacles, and clearing enemy waves at the same time creates satisfying pressure without feeling overwhelming. Weapon upgrades and power-ups add welcome variety, while the score-focused design encourages smarter routing and cleaner runs instead of simply surviving. Every attempt feels like an opportunity to improve. 🎨 Graphics & Audio The Recharged visual style works beautifully here. Bright neon effects, clean animations, and excellent visual clarity make even the busiest moments easy to follow. The electronic soundtrack keeps the adrenal…1 found this helpful
Full transparency: I received my copy of Caverns of Mars: Recharged through Atari’s Space Camp event in the Atari Club Discord. Caverns of Mars was supposed to be one training module. Instead, it became the game I kept returning to long after completing the Space Camp requirements. The basic idea is pure arcade design: descend through Mars, dodge enemies and terrain, blast open a route, manage your limited resources, and destroy the reactor at the bottom. It sounds simple—and it is easy to understand—but clean execution is another story. Every shot and movement can change your route, while the different weapons and upgrades force you to adjust your plan in the middle of a run. Since starting, I’ve completed the Ironman challenges multiple times and moved into speedrunning the game. My 10:24.990 Arcade Singleplayer run currently sits first on the Speedrun.com leaderboard. Chasing that time showed me where Caverns of Mars: Recharged is at its best. Once you begin learning the caverns, every hesitation, unnecessary shot, bad weapon pickup, and collision starts to matter. There is always another small improvement hiding somewhere in the run. The 30 individual missions offer a …
Very easy to pick up and play. Rewards skill.
So I definitely do not remember this game back in the 80s. It took a little getting used to... I feel like as a joystick game I would have used my right not my left, so WASD doesn't feel natural. I do wish you could reassign controls to the UDLR arrows as that would be far more comfortable for me. As it is, I just move my right hand over and hit the space bar with my left. It's not real natural, but I sure do better that way. It's a nice time killer, but I'm not sure how much I would play after this week due to these control issues. I definitely plan on loading it on my Steam Deck where I can reprogram controls a bit more. We'll see! :) I'm enjoying it nonetheless!
one of my flow state games.
