About CHAOTIC ERA

An immersive, high-octane strategy game that places you in command of the last shreds of humanity—marooned in deep space and hunted by vicious aliens. Played entirely from behind the controls of a future computer interface sitting high above the battlefield.

Chaotic Era is a highly-stylized grimdark action RTS, following a stranded human crew on an alien planet, with a unique, completely monochrome art direction inspired by the computer screens from movies like Alien, Blade Runner, and Starship Troopers.

It’s a game of quick decisions, devastating consequences, and endless panic as you struggle to stay alive in humanity’s hellish future. A fast-paced and unforgiving reimagining of the golden era of real-time strategy, Chaotic Era has been featured in publications like TechCrunch, Polygon, Wireframe Magazine, and more.

After an incredibly well received Early Access release in January 2023, this is the official full version of Chaotic Era, featuring tons of new features, content, and gameplay. A fresh and terrifying vision for new and existing fans alike, expanding massively on the previously available Early Access release.

"We left it all behind. Old Earth and its doomed children. Titan, Io, the floating cities of Venus. Mars' cursed wastelands..."

In the late 28th century, as the Solar System collapses, Earth’s corporate warlords launch thousands of starships in search of a new home, but the reality of deep space is far more horrifying than anyone could have imagined...

Take command of your shipwrecked human crew, scavenge for resources, and prepare to fight for survival. Or choose to play as humanity's alien tormentors, a shadowy species armed with horrifying bioorganic weaponry. Hunt humanity from world to world as you build gateways into this universe from the next.

In the world of Chaotic Era, energy is scarce.

Both humans and aliens need to use their reserves strategically to power life support, build weapons and defences, and research new technology; carefully and quickly transferring energy between their units in real-time.

It works now! I still suck at it.. but this time it isn't the game's fault

Cool wee game, bad reviews put me off getting this for a while but the recent update seems to have fixed those issues, the game was definitely enjoyable for me. its not too easy but doesnt take long to figure it out. game does have some issues especially ui related but for such a fair price cant even complain, most games would slap a £50 price on it and put half the effort this game has done into improving it.

\\ Read bottom. After trying a while to like this game - and I do - I still have to give it a stark thumbs down. So many basic features and much intuition is just missing. The preset missions, I do not doubt are technically possible; If the game functioned, anyway. Largest issues for me, aside from crashes (which did improve with the most recent update, but are still somewhat present) are units.. Not listening. At all. They allow themselves to die out of refusing to move, or do anything else at all while attacking/being attacked, leading your units to dissolve and forcing you to expend resources to make more, whenever you're up against more than 1, maybe 2 enemies within your range. They will not build. Their pathfinding is incredibly subpar. Movement speed is ludicrously slow. Even the AI itself doesn't seem to understand the game or how to work, both for your units/structures/interface and the enemy's behaviors. I will say it's immensely frustrating, but also disappointing because I adore this game's aesthetic. Sadly I just can't recommend it to anyone - if the developer reads this, seriously, please consider putting up simply a text guide on steam of the tutorials, and button/…

Game developers are actively working on making this game a good experience. While i would not recommend the game in the current state, i would keep it on a wishlist and keep an eye out for updates. Game presentation is impeccable and the mechanics are fun, but right now they're a chore to get around, especially if you intend to play with a controller.

This is may be one of the worst RTS games I've ever played. It looks great and incredibly unique, but the gameplay is awful. I struggle to even select units sometimes because they are so small, half the time they don't move when ordered. The energy system is ridiculous, why do I have to research a tech so I can even have my units function? And why do they not automatically siphon until you research a later tech? The missions are so poorly thought out. On Mutiny you can't produce resources so your units will scavenge for them instead, usually trying to retrieve them from the enemy, who then proceed to kill your workers. The AI also develops significantly faster than you, surrounding your base with structures and large turrets until you either give up or you are defeated. Next I tried to play a match against bots to see if it was better than the missions. Half my workers were dead within two minutes and my base was being attacked. Simply not enjoyable in anyway possible. The fact this game hasn't been updated since 2025 is also a bad sign of abandonware, unfortunate for such a cool looking game.

I'm sorry. The monochrome presentation with tons of glitches, wireframes and other visual noise just makes it too annoying to parse. Also, does the game seriously reward you just for clicking tiles quickly enough? That's...I dunno, I didn't expect a clicker game here. All that said, I was really looking forward to this on account of the writing. "AT THE LIMITS OF EARTH, AT THE EXTREMITY OF HEAVEN. A REAL-TIME STRATEGY NIGHTMARE." That's just a first-class blurb. I really like it. Sadly, I bounced off of the game itself.
