Game Rules

General gameplay: Each player starts with a standard set of chess pieces. However the chess pieces are hidden in anonymous boxes that are randomly assigned throughout the board at the beginning of the game. The players then take alternate turns playing. On each of their turn, a player may either open a box to free up a piece or move any of their previously freed pieces. They may make a move to relocate the piece or to capture an opponent's piece, where valid.The game continues until one player has lost all of their pieces, upon which the other player is deemed the winner of the game.Rules for moving: Each piece can only be moved one square at a time towards vertically or horizontally adjacent squares. Diagonal movement is not allowed in this game. Standard chess piece moves do not apply.Rules for capturing: The chess pieces are ranked in the order of pawn < rook < knight < bishop < queen < kingWhere pawns have the lowest rank and kings have the highest rank.Each chess piece is only allowed to capture an opponent's piece of equal or lower rank. For example, a rook may capture other rooks and pawns, but not knights and other higher ranked pieces. A bishop may capture other bishops and anything lower ranked than bishops (knights, rooks, and pawns), but cannot capture queens and kings.Important Key Caveat: Kings are not allowed to capture pawns. And pawns are the only ones allowed to capture kings.
