About Chickenhare and the treasure of Spiking-Beard
Chickenhare and the Treasure of Spiking Beard is a 3D platformer set in the universe of the beloved comic books and animated films. An original story, hand-crafted worlds, and three heroes who are absolutely not ready for what is about to happen to them.It is charming, it is funny, and it is genuinely beautiful to look at.
Three unlikely heroes
You play as all three of them, switching freely as the moment demands. They bicker, they stumble, they somehow save the day. You will have a favourite by the end of the first level.- Chickenhare uses his ears to glide - reaching platforms, crossing gaps, and finding paths that nobody else can get to. Reckless by nature. Usually fine.
- Abe uses his shell to smash through walls and structures blocking your path. He is extremely cautious for someone whose main move is to throw himself at things.
- Meg is a martial arts master. She kicks, she jumps, she combines both to reach heights the others cannot. And when she is completely surrounded by enemies, she has a trick nobody sees coming.
Worlds worth getting lost in.
Five completely different environments, each one hand-crafted and packed with secrets. Torch-lit castle corridors give way to sky-high rope bridges, then bamboo cities, then underground chambers with an eerie green glow.Every world hides something. Paths that only open with the right character. Puzzles that reward curiosity. The feeling that you have almost certainly missed something worth going back for.One more thing
Hidden inside the game are clues that lead to a real-world treasure hunt. Nobody has found it yet.Best played with a controller
Chickenhare was designed with a controller in mind and that is how it feels best. Plug one in and you will know immediately. From the page to the screen - and now this.
Chickenhare began as a comic book series by Chris Grine, full of warmth, humour, and genuinely great character design. It became two animated films. This is the first proper video game - an original adventure set in the same universe, faithful to everything that made the IP special. If you grew up with these characters, you will feel it immediately. If you are new to Chickenhare, this is a wonderful place to start. Are you ready for the adventure of your life? This is going to sound weird, but this is a fantastic game. It's not the flashiest, most amazing looking, or long in playtime. This game instead does something amazing. The main theme of this game is that your party is a party of adventurers and treasure hunters. When you play this game, you do not feel very much like a treasure hunter . . . until you start to notice certain subtleties. Strange signs on the walls, different languages across the kingdoms, and perplexing hidden messages cleverly hidden. When I first played this game, I found it to be a solid, lighthearted, action platformer. It works as intended in every way and is enjoyable. After completing the game I discovered the developers have set up a "real life" treasure hunt as part of the appeal. It's an ingenious system of clues, riddles, and attention to detail that is in the theme of the Chickenhare universe. Every day I spent hours searching for clues and deciphering puzzles, each step bringing me closer and closer to unraveling the answers I was seeking. I felt like a treasure hunter on an adventure. It was the most fun I have ever had "playing" a video game. The developers have come up with something truly uniq…15 found this helpful
A good classic platformer, with a trio of characters and family-friendly content. This could have been a hit back in the Xbox 360 era, but now, on Steam, without ads and a cartoon tie-in, it will go unnoticed.15 found this helpful
I saw the game and bought it on impulse because I liked the movie and books it was based on. The game kinda reminds me of Crash Bandicoot but not as zany. You can jump on enemys with Abe, Meg, and Chickenhare. You can crack their whips on baddies, crush them with Abe's tortoise shell or mow them down on an incline like a Koopas revenge fantasy. With Meg the skunk you can whip out the kung fu moves like she did in the movies. She can smoke a crowd of baddies by lifting her big fluffy tail to unleash this super braap attack. She does it with a style thats very European in design. when its charged up. Controls are easy to remember and it plays great on my Deck Oled in high settings. Wish the camera controls were a little better, the cam feels far away at times, part of why it reminded me of Crash Bandicoot. If you are a fan of the movies, you may find joy in this game if you like that platform element. Each character have different moves that come into play but you can switch between them at will. Kinda reminds me of Sonic Heroes in that aspect. Give it a try.6 found this helpful
A fun game for the whole family! I tried playing this with both mouse & keyboard & controller, and controller is definitely recommended. It'll be much easier to control the characters. Though I think this game would be awesome as a possible 2 player game. A really good platfomer game so far, I really like the details and the nostalgic feelings I got from it. I got a lite Fable/trine vibes but more “modern” in graphics. A nice and good challenging Gameplay, but not to challenging. The switching between the characters, and using their different abilities to move forward & solving puzzle was a nice feeling, and the thing that made me think of The Trine universe, hehe. I do like that the skunk has the “fart sound” when the cloud happens it made me giggle, haha. (yes, I will never grow up! LOL) Plus, a chickenhare, a turtle & a skunk with whips to swing Indiana jones style?! LOVE IT! Since I played mostly with mouse & keyboard I fell off cliffs and ledges quite easily & often, so playing with a controller is recommended. It would be much easier to control the character and also help with more accuracy when need to do jumping puzzles and climbing etc. But I did die a lot haha. 1…2 found this helpful
Game feels unpolished. 3 characters, as if 1 is not enough. No sound design or VA. Not a great game, but it does offer fun gameplay. Devs even managed to make tilting platrorms and they work.
This is such a perfect game for Steam Deck / other handheld devices. It's kept me occupied on several flights this year. The controls are great and the game is very fun in short sessions. The levels are really well designed and the 3 characters are well balanced. I am also intrigued by this real life treasure hunt - this will be my next obsession.
