Chromacell

Chromacell is perfectly OK, with a couple of odd design choices keeping it from being great. It picks up some design elements from "Euro-Shmups", like most enemies being tanky or most (mini) bosses having random shot patterns. Another bizarre design element is that through its 10 stages, nothing other than your initial 3 lives persist. You start each stage from scratch, no power ups, no shot type, but also restored shields. What it nails are the visuals. Great pixel art, good usage of effects, backgrounds aren't distracting and clearly visible. Good stuff. The soundscape is fine, nothing memorable, but it does its job well enough. All in all, it's an enjoyable romp for a great asking price that just falls short of greatness by a handful of rough edges.

Chromacell is a simple horizontal shmup with pretty nice pixel art graphics. Nothing spectacular gameplay wise but enjoyable with fun bosses. You start each new level with a vanilla ship you can upgrade again. The weapon upgrades could have been done better. They're pretty strong. Might have been better if the weapon upgrades were in 2 or 3 steps so you could only cheese the end of a level, alternatively they could have been temporary. When the choice is offered I always take the beam because it's over powered but does get a bit boring. Might have been better if there wasn't a choice so players get forced to play with all weapons for a bit of variety. The secret areas are gimmicky since they do nothing except award some points and distract you from the game. There's also too many of them. After I made it to 29/30 I did the successive run by quiting the game before it saved my mistake and tried again using continue from the menu. One per stage would have been better imo with an actual secret area, like an alternate route or just a way to pick up an extra or special upgrade. No secret areas would have been fine too. Fun simple shoot em up with a decent amount of stage variety. Weapons feel good to use especially the spreadshot and laser. Boss fights were fun and did not overstay welcome. Overall a fun shoot em up.

It's a game you can finish in about 30 minutes. Pretty chill for a SHMUP. Nice pixel art, fun gameplay, just a wee bit on the slower side. I suppose you can ramp up the difficulty and such if you want, so possibly do that. I don't really have a lot to say about it. You're a ship. You can find 3 weapons, you shoot things, you have a shield, things explode, there are bosses, and lasers. Music is good. And the game is fun, particularly if you are a fan of the classic SHMUPs but want something a bit more relaxed now.

Not the most complex of shmups, but has that classic computer shmup feel to it.

Great 'Shoot em Up' @ a bargain price. Very enjoyable. Love the retro graphics !
