Space Warpster

[b] Space Warpster [/b] is the kind of shmup I like to play. I tend to avoid bullet heaven tags on Steam because I just find them overwhelming, but [b] Space Warpster [/b] relies on old school fast reflexes and positioning to survive. If you enjoyed shmups in the 80's and 90's then you will love this one. It's reminiscent of Spectrum games of that era with pixel graphics and a colour pallette you will recognize, but it feels superior and smoother to play. The soundtrack is amazing, but probably a bit more advanced than they had at that time, but it fits the game perfectly and elevates the excitement factor. There are three difficulty levels to choose from and a bonus level you can try at any time. It looks like a new bonus level is going to be added soon too. There is one leader board which amalgamates all three difficulty levels. I'm surprised there wasn't a separate leader board for each difficulty. There's also achievements to earn and keyboard or controller can be used. The game is reasonably difficult on any of the difficulty levels. There's a noticeable difference in the amount of bullets and enemies, but to be honest I didn't find a huge leap up in difficulty. It will be…

I’m playing on a Mac and just bought the full version. And it’s all worth the 5 bucks! Because this game brings back a lot of nostalgic memories for me. I've only been playing for about 30 minutes, and I'm already hooked. As a kid, I practically lived in arcades and spent an embarrassing amount of coins on games like this. My mom wasn't exactly thrilled about it. Thankfully, I don't have to keep feeding coins into a machine to continue playing this one. As a retro arcade game, I think it's a complete success. It's easy to pick up, and always fun to come back to. The soundtrack adds a truly authentic vibe and is a joy to listen to. I'm definitely determined to unlock all the Steam achievements and complete every level. With each new run, I'm learning getting a little better. 5 Stars!

Nicely realised ode to Zynaps on the Spectrum / CPC, without the annoying inertia!

This is a decent shmup that just needs more. The pickups are fun and unique and the soundtrack fits the theme, but after that more needs to be done for someone to be influenced to purchase this game. The first stage is fair, but the second stage I'm not even sure what kills me half the time. All I know is it's white, it comes from behind and it isn't the green balls. So I die on the second stage, and am forced to start from the beginning without any progress or ship upgrade. IMO, there should be a very easy mode and maybe ship upgrade cards or some sort of roguelite abilities. The actual shmup part is a 10/10, but this shmup is short sighted. So far, I enjoyed playing this game a ton. It reminds me of Space Impact, which was a classic game you could find from the old Nokia phones, but this is actually way better, with a killer soundtrack. The graphics are on point, and it gets the job done simulating an arcade game from the 80's. Kudos to all people involved in this project!

Remember how hard games were on the NES or C64? This is a game cut from that cloth. You have 3 lives and your wits, that's all! The music is way better though :) I listened to the sound track on loop all day. It's that good in my opinion. Nothing earth shatteringly novel here just old school twitchy shoot'em up fun suited for a lunch break at work.
