City Tales - Medieval Era

Ah, I adore this game - some really unique mechanics with companions (who are also part of the story!) having to build up different resources and production buildings. It has the nice organic feel of the layout too like in Manor Lords, rather than a rigid grid system. Very much enjoying so far!

This game has easily climbed its way to be one of my favorites in the city building genre! I know a lot of people like freeform city building, but this method with storyline quests and companions really appeals to me. I like having freedom of choice in how to build my city, but having some direction to follow (with a fun story to boot) is really good. The art style and the graphics are so beautiful, and the menu song is very catchy. You can tell the artistic love that was put into this, and I thankfully have not seen indication AI was used in any part. You upgrade your city in lots instead of having to worry about individual population increase all the time - you do have some population goals here and there, but the amount of people in your city or hamlets do not lock you out of progression. I also like the companion mechanic where I don't have to micromanage individual workshops all the time, but instead make sure they're just leveled up to function by themselves. Speaking of companions, I really like all their individual stories, and that progressing (and finishing them) rewards you with improvements for your city. Chill and not bad but about 5 hours and then another 5 in idle grind if you wanna finish companion quests and achievements

Best City Builder ive played for a long time, this is not a copy and paste like most others, even with a massive sprawling city it is so manageable without having townfolk refusing to walk two paces for a well and letting their whole family perish with a perfectly good well at the end of the street lol, this is the new age for builders.

Fun lil colony sim, quite chill and relaxing, but sadly thats about it, you feel no urgency or threat in it at all, just build, enjoy the music and chill with the story? Absolutely loved this game. One of the best management games I've played in terms of easiness to understand and the animation. I was pleasently surprised by the story lines for each of the characters and I enjoyed playing. The game doesn't overwhelm you with trying to keep the villagers happy - mostly about gaining resources. I only wish there was a creative mode - I wanted to start a new map but unfortunately I had to start from scratch again.
