[i]Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun[/i] is the sequel to the smash hit [i]Command & Conquer[/i] that defined the RTS genre. Unlike the original game and [i]Red Alert[/i], Westwood was no longer under Virgin Interactive and was instead bought out by EA and given a larger budget and scope to compete with Blizzard's [i]StarCraft[/i] and help [i]Command & Conquer[/i] reclaim its throne as the king of RTS games. The studio’s goal was to make one of the most ambitious games in RTS history. However, despite rocky development leading to many of its ambitious ideas, including a third playable faction plus its campaign and [i]XCOM[/i]-style custom unit loadouts for each mission being cut, Westwood's first outing with EA unfortunately falls short of living up to the original C&C's legacy, but still delivers a good RTS with the most ambitious production and worldbuilding the genre has seen.
