They cut back on gameplay to focus on the story, but unfortunately, neither are good.
The gameplay
Previous CSD games constantly forced you to make split-second decisions about which orders to prioritize based on recipe complexity and customer patience. In CSF, you only ever handle one order at a time, so that entire layer of time management is gone. The game simply presents a sequence of prompts and asks you to press the corresponding button. See a button on the screen? Press that button. That's it. You never choose your menu, and moreover, every dish in CSF is cooked using the exact same sequences of button-presses, so they all feel the same.
The story
There really isn't much there. There's no antagonist until the last 30 minutes of the game, so the protagonists never really face any adversity. The plot mostly consists of travelling from place to place, and then they drop a bunch of big plot twists right before the final level. Most of the major characters share the same friendly, quirky demeanor, to the point that the two protagonists often feel interchangeable in conversation. Any dialogue from one could be given to the other with l…3 found this helpful
Beware, this is not a traditional "Cook, Serve, Delicious" game, the orders aren't random, it's easier than any other CSD games, and you follow the story of a character through little cutscenes and little discussions during the "cooking challenges", and outside of it. It's very much a kinetic visual novel (as in you don't make any choices but you follow the story) in essence, mixed with gameplay of having to cook dishes which are multiple series of QTE actions, like cutting stuff with a knife requires you to press LB/R1 16 times, other actions will require other prompts and they're all shared between recipes. It's not as hard as the other Cook Serve games but will still provide a challenge if you're aiming for 100% accuracy in all locations and all gold medals. The story was good and I really liked the game for what it is, so I whole heartedly recommend it.2 found this helpful
honestly this franchise is going down hill, it went from perfection, to good to why is it a shooter, now to press buttons sim. this is honestly tragic because the first game is o ne of my favoret games of all time and that one is the only one you should play1 found this helpful

As someone whose 100%'d every CS besides the first one (i'm lazy), I really enjoyed this one despite a detour from the usual mechanics. :) Plot line was nice and the voice actors really sealed it for me! Think my only real complaint is for solely PC only players the keys kinda sucked because some keys were unusable while pressing other keys on the opposite end. I'm aware that this game was made for controller input, but it would've been nicer if I still had easier keyboard controls like the previous installments but I managed in the end. :)
Cook, Serve, Forever is definitely different compared to the other CSD, BUT in a good way. The art is beautiful, story telling was great, voice acting too. The gameplay was hard to get used to at first but I'm so glad I tried this game. The ending was great too!!!
