Cosmic Drift

This game design is timeless. Plenty of great decisions for modern, connected play, but this one's addicting all on its own, too.

Cosmic Drift is one of those games where the basic idea sounds incredibly simple, but I found myself wanting to keep trying anyway. I launch a rocket toward a group of planets and have to find a trajectory that keeps it in orbit for as long as possible. I liked how quickly the game turns basic physics into a score chasing challenge. The controls are extremely easy to understand. I choose my launch direction and then let gravity take over, watching the rocket curve around the planets. The challenge comes from predicting the trajectory and finding that sweet spot where I can get close to the planets without crashing. I enjoyed this because a tiny change can completely change the result. The risk and reward system is what kept me interested. Staying safe is not always enough if I want a high score, because getting closer to the planets gives me more opportunities to increase my points. I liked having to decide how aggressive I wanted to be, especially when a great run could suddenly collapse because I pushed the trajectory just a little too far.
