Cosmic Run impresses players with its striking PS2-era inspired art style, engaging character dialogue, tight level design, and excellent dynamic soundtrack that creates an immersive flow state. However, players note significant concerns about excessive grinding requirements for progression and technical issues including frequent crashes and freezing that detract from the experience.
I don't usually post reviews on games nor do I post them early into my playtime, but I had to make an exception for this one. I've played tons of roguelikes and roguelites. They're among my favorite genres of games, but lately they've become saturated with a lot of lazy design and needless complexity. The reason why I'm writing this review this soon is because Cosmic Run doesn't fall victim to this and stands out among the rest in multiple ways. The artstyle is great, a real breath of fresh air. It reminds me of the PS2 era CGi when it was just getting big. It makes the game unique, visually recognizable and striking. The characters are fun, their quips during gameplay are also something I rarely see these days. It adds to worldbuilding, something this genre can struggle with due to how much focus is on gameplay. Gameplay is nothing new by itself, but what I can say is that everything around it is simplified and easily understandable. I'll put it like this, What I really hate about roguelikes/roguelites is when I have to open up 20 stupid wiki articles just to figure out how to optimize a run because descriptions in game don't tell me exactly what a weapon, upgrade or enemy does…8 found this helpful
Not much to this game. It is quite basic and there isn't too much to explore. The meta progression is very minimal and within the 2hrs I've played I have unlocked all the characters and beat 2 out of 3 of the zones. Not sure if there is anything else that will be added to it at all or not, but I surely wouldn't pay full price for a game with as little content as this. I got it 50% off and I still feel like that was a bit of a ripoff. I may change this review if something more shows up down the line, but as of right now it is hard to recommend to anyone when you can get many more games with some real content and gameplay value for the price.1 found this helpful
Cosmic Run grabbed me from the first launch with a simplicity that hides real depth. On the surface it looks like a fast arcade runner through space tunnels, but after a few levels I realised the level design and pacing are carefully honed. The visuals are colorful and stylized—not photorealistic, but a visual language that works perfectly for speed and readability. Neon colors and high-contrast effects give each run tension, and when everything speeds up it’s always clear what matters: obstacles, power-ups and the racing line. The music and sound design are possibly the game’s strongest assets. The soundtrack is dynamic, electronic, and complements the sense of hurtling through space. The music’s tempo often matches level rhythm, so you quickly slip into a flow state and begin reacting almost instinctively. Audio cues for near-misses and pickups are clear and useful, without excessive clutter that would distract. Controls are precise and responsive—which is crucial for this genre. After a quick sensitivity tweak I felt complete control of the ship. Difficulty is well balanced: early levels introduce mechanics, middle sections test precision and reflexes, and later stages demand …1 found this helpful
I absolutely love this game but am becoming frustrated with the constant crashing and locking up with every run. Im not giving up! I'm positive whatever the problem is it will get patched soon!1 found this helpful
The game is loads of fun, especially if you are nostalgic about old gems like Space Invaders and the like!
Great visuals and upgrade variety. A bit slow at the start, but definitely a fun time for Roguelite fans.
