Crimson Hell

bad UI. poor performance on a 7700x/rtx 3080/64GB RAM. why do I constantly have to pick crap up off the ground? Just let me walk over it to pick it up. froze when entering the school, give me a loading screen lol having a crafting system for bandages seems dumb when cloth can't be used for anything else even with those issues, I was willing to see what the game had to offer... until I was unable to interact with my inventory at all. called it there.

"Crimson Hell" is a poorly made, badly optimised and mostly Unity kitbashed third person horror adventure game with a little running around, spooky atmosphere, fetch quests and lightweight inventory management, all of which could be appealing in a professionally developed, polished AAA game... none of which applies to this. It's janky, buggy, and unpleasant to play. I'm not sure if this is an asset flip, but it's one of those cases where the assets just look much better than the rest of the quality of the game... a glaring inconsistency. There's no evidence, but as always, the biggest problem with asset flips besides the plagiarism is the deplorably low quality of the other aspects of the game, and even if the game assets are genuinely created for the game, the quality of the rest of the game is indistinguishable from that of asset flips. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free…

Crimson Hell is a great example of all of the right things that should go into a game regarding its artwork, voice acting, 3D assets, and level design. I can tell that a lot of love and care went into the themes and aesthetics of the game and seeing each section unfold as more of the story was uncovered and Sae’s journey came to its resolution from the school to the shrine was worth the wait. My favorite sections were easily the ones in the school since I thought a lot of the game’s juiciest parts were placed here, I also thought the assets were nicely decorated and sound design was good too. However, there are some issues with the game’s design that must be pointed out since I must be fair. There were some bugs that got in the way of the game's progress such as an inventory glitch and the way the checkpoints worked also had me restart the game once or twice, but I personally wasn’t too far off that it wasn’t a big deal for me. These can be a big deal to others though so I’d make it known in general. That being said, I think Crimson Hell is a really cool student project that, with the right efforts in the right places, has a lot of potential to be something unique and interesting. …

Voice Actors are really great! The concept of throw vs place on the ground combat wise is pretty neat. A couple of great jump scares. The Creator should be very proud of this.

There's a lot to like here for a small team low budget high effort affair - and the love is definitely there. I just think there were some issues that kept me from completing it. A quick one is just the music is very short and repetitive and it might even be better served to just have some creepy ambiance instead. The second is i also ran into the same bug numerous people mentioned where it seems like at some point you just can't use or combine items anymore for a bit. Eventually after the "fight" it came back but it was still kind of whack. It felt like I spent more time picking up things to fight with than actually fight lol. I'm normally not one to complain about this but you might want to either stack higher odds in the enemies' favor or go easy on the item drops. Tbh tho I stopped playing when I just got stuck. I know I had to use holy salt to sanctify some cursed objects, and i did find one, but then couldnt find the other. When I ran into the courtyard where it said there were two beyond it, i kept dying. I realize now I probably should've used the salt invincibility thing, but it never occurred to me because i never had to use it before. I had already quit out and was…
