Backstory:
Not that long ago ocean going passenger cruise ship liners were used primarily to ferry people across the oceans of the world. Back then cruise ships did not offer the endless variety of entertainment offered today. So, these long journeys were filled with many boring hours of doing mostly nothing, sitting in a deck chair, drinking in the bar, maybe playing cards with fellow passengers.
But one of the highlights each day everyone looked forward to on these long cruises was the afternoon horse races. Not with actual horses running around the deck, but six wooden horses would be brought into the ship's main lounge. These horses would run on a short grid track and move based on the roll of a die. If the dice roll was 6, horse number 6 would move one grid square. This would continue until one horse crossed the finish line and came in first.
Passengers would bet on the winner number of the race, and the betting odds and payoffs were based on the total amount bet by all the passengers in a true horse racing para-mutual system. The odds would then be posted just before the start of the race. Passengers holding winning tickets would be paid off before the start of the next race.
Game Play:
Cruise Ship Horse Racing is based on this very same horse racing betting game idea, this time with eight animated horses running on a more realistic grid-based track, while the simulation rolls an 8-sided die many times per second. The betting odds are also randomly simulated, and you can bet on which horse numbers will come in first, second, or third (Win, Place, or Show).
You start off the game with a wallet of $100, and you can make up to three different $10 bets each race. Your wallet and wagering history are saved and carried over from the previous game session. There are also race statistics to help with your wagering selections, showing which horse numbers have been in the money the most times in recent races.
You can track your success by using your winning dollars to purchase one or more of the the original horse art rewards we have created exclusively for this game, maybe you will unlock a rare or legendary piece of horse art.

Apparently, this was a popular pastime on old cruise ships where voyages were not filled with swimming pools, discos, and theaters. CSHR is a very simple game with a busy presentation. There isn’t a lot of game to CSHR, it could be easily made by a high school student in a few hours, minus the pretty facade. The player starts with $100 and makes bets on horses by number, with payouts based on cumulative bets made by other hypothetical passengers on the voyage. If the player is repeatedly lucky calling the win, place, or show, the $100 could be parlayed up to some greater amount. CSHR is played with the mouse and its only use is to click buttons for selecting the horse number, wager amount, win/place/show, start race, etc. There are no graphic options; the sound is only capable of being turned down or off. My dad used to own race horses and Dogs. He now just like to go to the Bar/Restaurant that offer betting on races that are on the different tv's. So i thought id try this and mabye if it was decent enough id gift a copy to him. (i chose NOT to). Hoeses advance when their number is rolled on an 8 sided die. So the software just rolls it very fast so the "race" takes about 20 seconds to complete. So, there is zero handicapping. just bet win place or show. Up to 3 bets per race. No exotics like Exacta Or Trifecta (that sucks). No Daily Double. Odds mean nothing. They are just for the AI generated pool. The game keeps stats on prev first second or third but have no bearing other than a past stat. No skill needed. Just pick numbers and watch the sprint. Kinda quarter horse style. For the .99 cents i paid for it its a cute time waster and possibly a good party game with a couple of guests (again, only up to 3 bets per race allowed so another suck factor). You start with $100 (thats exactly what i bring with me in real life) and we bet 10 races. So, after 10 aces i won .20 cents total. so, in real like thats breaking even and you had a nice time at the track or venue that you bet a…
