Dap is a horror adventure game, where you play as a small creature called Dap and you have to save the forest where you and the other Daps live and fight against the corruption. The strong point of Dap is the visuals. It's unique, colorful and great for the atmosphere, it adds to the horror factor aswell. Speaking of which: Dap's horror is more based on the atmosphere although some parts have a few sudden scares due to the enemy ambushes, which was alright. The story is a hit or miss thing for each player, because there is not much going on, but if you see more into it, it could be interesting to follow or emotional even for some. Gameplay wise there are collectibles to find which the players can lookout for, and the game elements gets introduced progressively. It gets tactical later and reacting to sudden things as best as possible. However my biggest issue with Dap is the lack variety in the gameplay. There is challenge along the playthrough, but there is not enough different game element or gameplay in general until the end. Also, in few chapters I got lost and didn't know where to go. Even though the game is not that long, these things can make the experience less enjoyable. …

"dap dap dap" ❤️‍🩹🖤🖤 🟩 the creepy atmosphere is excellent 🔷 some really good music and ambience 🔴 the gameplay just ends up tedious vibes: forest mushroom nightmare loops: explore, gather followers, don't let them die too much ramblings: this is a cool two hour game stretched out to be like three times longer than it has anything for. the aesthetic and mood is impeccable, but there's not enough to fill it out. it just feels like a lot of tedium and repetition, exploring the exact same looking forest environments with sometimes a different color hue, solving the same... puzzles, calling them puzzles is very generous, they're locks you unlock with x followers or a few rare times by luring x enemies onto them. it at least does introduce some different enemy types, but most of the difficulty i found was that the enemies just jumpscare you by spawning right next to you and bullrushing. the occasional ambush is fine, but it felt like eventually it was the only way combat happened  the maps are large and kind of have branching paths, and hidden areas, and moving forward can lock you out of previous areas. and then they have one-time checkpoints as sa…

Disclaimer: This will be quite extensive of a review. No spoilers but the short end of it... I loved this game so much. Little bit of a personal story: I bought this game some years ago but never ended up finishing it. Stopped around halfway done because I was so tense and scared to continued on, which was in no way a bad thing- Opposite rather. As of posting this review, I finally took up the resolve to restart my progress and see it through to the end. I was still so tense and paranoid just like all those years ago and I loved every single moment. What I loved: - Those damn graphics: It's an unique artstyle that is both cute, beautiful, and somehow unnerving at the same time. There was many moments where I just savored the scenery- walking around instead of spamming the dash button. - Story: Admittedly. there is not that much narrative depth but I enjoyed it for what it is. Self contained in its own universe, easy enough to follow along, simple, and the few characters you find along the way are likeable. Let's not forget all those daps! - Resource system and balancing: The game involves a good chunk of resource management, beyond finding and keeping those daps alive! Personal…

Despite the game's recommendation, I wholeheartedly don't recommend playing on a controller. Aiming is nicer with mouse, and you can't rebind controller mapping, unlike with keyboard and mouse. With that out of the way, I still recommend this short (4h~) linear game and consider it quite an underrated gem.
The Good
[olist] [*] The artstyle is unique and beautiful complimented with detailed environment and good effects [*] Unique setting and worldbuilding [*] Great soundtrack and the sound effects are satisfying. Especially the "dap dap" sounds. [*] The game can be quite intense and scary. They nailed the atmosphere and the horror sequences. Some of the horror sequences was quite creative. [*] fierce combat with challanging enemy variety. [*] Good length, Doesn't overstay its welcome. [/olist]
The Mid
[olist] [*] Writing is alright. The story is clear and at the same time vague. You know what you are and what your ultimate goal is but, what you're doing is pretty vague and the characters you meet appear without sufficient explanation. [*] There's an imbalance in overall quality. The first half can be boring and a slog but …

A short and unique experience that is shrouded by an unsettling atmosphere, I just wish that they could have mapped the dodge button on a trigger so that you can dodge comfortably while charging your shots. It also has some survival elements that add to the difficulty and build on the tension. Therefore, This gets a 6.8/10 from me and I recommend that you buy it on a sale.

Only recommending for the superb pixel artstyle, the music & the combat. Unfortunately, I can't progress any further. There's a part, very early, with three flowers blooming Daps, I need a lot of Daps to move forward but I don't have any. I know from before a fire took the spore Daps & gave them bodies, but I can't seem to figure out how to start the damn fire, so I'm either softlocked cause I couldn't keep enough Daps alive through that gauntlet, or I'm completely missing something. Despite all that, good game.
