About Dark Fear

*** WARNING: This game contains loud noises and frightening scenes which some players may find disturbing! ***

DESCRIPTION

You wake up in pitch blackness. You have no idea who you are, where you are or how you got here - it's up to you to figure it out!

For horror game fans seeking out that ultimate fix, 'Dark Fear' delivers an immersive, frightening experience wrapped in a cinematic soundtrack and a dark, twisted storyline written by an ex-film industry professional. The game can only described as blend between RPG and adventure with a 2D graphical style similar to the classic PC games from the 1980s (think Myst meets Kings Quest). Its simplistic approach allows even the most casual gamers to gently unfold and enjoy its many complex layers of game mechanics.

Explore a diverse landscape filled with forests, mountains, lakes and deserts. Make allies in the local village, upgrade your weapon and armor, go hunting/fishing and fight your way to the truth by slaying your foes, solving puzzles and helping people with their problems.

FEATURES

  • A combination of both adventure and RPG game mechanics
  • Classic 1980's PC style visuals
  • A cinematic Hollywood-style soundtrack composed by film industry professionals
  • A deep and engaging storyline
  • Higher clarity, improved audio quality over the original mobile version

Pretty good interactive fiction. Some comments from a fellow worshipper of the dark arts: + Thanks for letting me commit genocide on all the wildlife in the valley. + Nice visuals that are perfectly complemented by the score. + Interesting writing and ideas... - Just not enough of it and the scenarios could be more fully developed. + The light RPG aspect is very nice... - ...but for the love of all that is dark, in your next game please do not make the combat a reflex minigame! Leave that to the souls-likes. + I liked the cast of characters. - ...but the protagonist is a fool. Fortunately this mostly does not detract from the experience. + Overall, the experience was brief, but just right for the amount of content.

It's cool, and well worth the price.

Dark Fear is basically what you'd get if a Sierra adventure game from the 90s got possessed by a demon, and combining its atmospheric horror/adventure with RPG elements together nicely to tell a compelling, yet grizzly tale. Simply booting the game and seeing the floppy disk boot screen alone had me smiling. But you know what else this game reminds me of? Cabin in the Woods. Anyway, combat is fairly simple. There's a little power meter you time your hits with, and it's quite satisfying once you get used to it. The score counter at the top (old school Sierra style) hits different when it ticks up after you solve something. RPG elements sneak in too, like leveling and buying gears or hunting for animals and fishing, which I wasn't expecting but totally welcomed. Now, some warning: pixel hunting is real here. I spent an embarrassing amount of time looking for a rock. A rock. The environments aren't huge, but some items are basically camouflaged into the scenery. There's also a trick where dragging an item around lights things up, which helps, but it's somewhat clunky. Still, none of that stopped me from being completely hooked on the mystery. Its flaws are small compared to the qua…

Not a lot of depth for an rpg. the improvements you get are required for you to defeat the next boss. grinding dexterity hunting/fishing gets old fast. For the price it was a fun game that i completed which says a lot for the game.
