About Darker Skies: Remastered for PC
Remastered exclusively for PC
Darker Skies comes fully remastered to PC. Incorporating new graphical features and gameplay enhancements for the definitive way to play Darker Skies over the console versions.
The remaster brings new features:
- Re-balanced upgrade systems, enemy AI and completely overhauled movement and gameplay mechanics make for a far more refined experience.
- Realtime Global Illumination - Realistic bounced lighting and realtime reflections.
- Soft contact shadows - Soft shadows that spread realistically based on real world light properties.
- Virtualized Geometry - Enjoy better performance and memory optimization with the highest asset detail settings.
The War is over
But the effects linger. Take control of Jack, a survivor of the War of the Worlds trying to rebuild a working Heat Ray to blow his way to freedom and light the spark that will rebuild civilization.
Explore the Horrors of the world after interplanetary war, encounter psychotic enemies suffering from prolonged exposure to Red Weed. Collect parts from fallen Tripod's and rebuild your own Heat Ray and maybe even come face to face with the few surviving Martians themselves.
Craft weapons and items and combine them in interesting ways to take out the creatures left behind after the war, sneak your way past, or just shoot your way through. You decide.
Note On Controller Support
Partial controller support - The game can be played with a controller from start to finish. Menus will work with the exception of Advanced Graphics. A menu option to switch which controller icons to show are in the Advanced Graphics menu.

It’s a light and fast game, I really liked it. It has a lot of strong features and its own vibe. My only issue is that enemies move so fast I can’t even raise my gun before، and i die instantly! that need to fix. 2 found this helpful
Darker Skies: Remastered for PC is an indie survival action-adventure developed and published by Steel Arts Software Ltd. that revisits and refines an earlier release into a more cohesive experience for PC players. Drawing clear inspiration from classic alien invasion narratives, particularly the bleak aftermath of a War of the Worlds–style catastrophe, the game drops players into a shattered Earth where humanity has been nearly erased. Civilization has collapsed, alien machines lie dormant but dangerous, and the landscape itself feels hostile and unwelcoming. Rather than focusing on large-scale resistance or heroic warfare, the game frames its story around isolation, desperation, and the slow grind of survival in a world that no longer belongs to humans. Players take on the role of Jack, a lone survivor whose central goal is to repair a powerful alien Heat Ray weapon that may represent his only chance at escape or control over the environment. This objective gives the game a clear narrative throughline, but the storytelling is intentionally understated. Instead of lengthy cutscenes or dialogue-heavy exposition, much of the narrative is conveyed through environmental details, aban…1 found this helpful
I enjoyed this game *very* much. Played and finished offline. Bought this at once after playing the prequel Grey Skies (beware, loved that too, but that one has some fixable issues explained in my review of that other game. They can be played in any order.) This is a very much more polished sequel to Grey Skies, thought they didn't use the better programming of Darker Skies to fix the menu issues in Grey Skies even it the basics/mechanics/Menus for both games are the same. Economics constraints I suppose. Sometimes returning from missions, instead on to the home hub the hero appeared in the tutorial, what ?. No big deal as you conserve all progress and ammo so you quickly shoot through back to the hub. -- Disclosure: My playings aren't typical, being a 70 y.o. making my own C.E. tables. the final verdict, so i did watch a lore video on the first game because the reviews were not good for it, so i didn't want to take the chances if im being honest. i saw this game before i even knew about that one and i was hesitant to buy it because it was kinda one of those games were it doesn't look so bad but there's not a lot going on in the trailer or people talking about it...however i can say i did enjoy this game. it was scary, immersive with ultra audio design and the graphics are actually really solid. the areas are put together tightly crafted and well. the gameplay is eh, clunky gunplay but it's not a huge thing within the game. the areas were nice to explore and i would argue the low budget AI is actually scary as hell when they jump out and start charging at you LOL. either way for $12 it isn't too bad honestly. survival horror fans should check that one out if they are in search for one and/or burnt out from mainstream titles.1 found this helpful
FINAL SCORE: 4/10 Darker Skies Remastered, the PC edition of this post-War of the Worlds survival horror game, boasts new graphical features and gameplay enhancements for what should be the definitive experience. However, my experience with the game left me with mixed feelings. Graphically, the game is a bit of a paradox. On one hand, it looks pretty good, with well-designed lighting and character models. However, it also comes across as very bare bones, lacking the depth and detail that could truly immerse players in its post-apocalyptic world. The gameplay, unfortunately, is where Darker Skies Remastered stumbles the most. The gunplay feels stiff and lacks the fluidity needed for an enjoyable experience. The absence of sensitivity options adds to the frustration, making precise aiming a cumbersome task. Movement speed is another issue, with walking being too slow and running excessively fast, creating a jarring contrast. Voice acting, while not exceptional, falls within an acceptable range. However, the overall performance of the game is a significant drawback. Stuttering, low FPS, and poor optimization mar the experience, even on high-end hardware, such as the 7900 XTX.
