About The Darkness II

✦ AI summary

Wield The Darkness—a supernatural force of destruction—as crime boss Jackie Estacado in this visceral first-person shooter where you dual-wield weapons while commanding demonic arms to slash, grab, and obliterate enemies in shadow-drenched environments. Battle through a gripping supernatural crime saga solo or with up to three friends, mastering light and darkness mechanics in a stylish graphic noir world pulled straight from the comic pages.

Inspired by the popular comic book series produced by Top Cow Productions, Inc., The Darkness II is an intense first person shooter that delivers a twisted and gripping narrative of tragedy, modern crime drama, and supernatural horror.
Players will be taken down the brutal and personal path of Jackie Estacado, head of a New York crime family and wielder of an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction known as The Darkness.
It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado used The Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. He’s been unable to shake the memory of Jenny’s death since bottling up his supernatural power and now The Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack by a mysterious organization known as the Brotherhood heralds the start of a full-scale war and opens the door for The Darkness to reemerge, setting Jackie on a journey to hell and worse.

Key Features

  • 4-Player Co-op Campaign - Play as one of four unique characters each capable of wielding weapons infused with Darkness powers.
  • Quad-Wielding Chaos - Slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with the Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons, adding a new dimension to the FPS category.
  • Harness an Unstoppable Power - Master the Demon Arms and summon the powers of The Darkness for even more explosive gameplay.
  • Kill the Lights - The vicious powers of The Darkness manifest only in the shadows so use the environment to your advantage and watch out for enemies who will use light as a weapon.
  • Intense and Personal Journey - Experience a dark, twisted and gripping story written exclusively for the game by acclaimed comic book author Paul Jenkins whose credits also include The Incredible Hulk, Wolverine, and the original The Darkness game.
  • Distinctive Graphic-Noir Style - Graphic novel shading and color combined with the dramatic lighting of film noir pays tribute to the source material and brings the pages of the comic series to life. Inspired by the popular comic book series created by Top Cow.

✦ AI summary

The Darkness II delivers satisfying gunplay and unique Darkness powers that keep combat engaging, with a distinctive visual style and strong voice acting that fans of the series appreciate. However, the game is notably short (around 6 hours), quite linear, and somewhat repetitive, with limited player agency and world interaction that makes it feel like a product of its era rather than a timeless experience.

**A solid action experience that still holds up** I never got the chance to play *The Darkness II* back in the PS3 days, even though it had a lot of hype at the time. Coming back to it now, I’m glad I did—especially since it runs really well on a basic laptop with integrated graphics. The gameplay is where this title shines. The gunplay feels powerful and satisfying, and the Darkness abilities add a unique twist that keeps combat engaging. There’s a nice flow between shooting and using your powers, and it rarely gets boring. That said, the game is quite short—I finished it in about 6 hours. It’s also very linear, which was common for games of that era, but it’s something to keep in mind if you prefer open or replayable experiences. The story is interesting and keeps you thinking throughout, but I wasn’t a fan of the ending. Without spoiling anything, it feels like it was clearly setting up a third installment that never happened, which is a bit disappointing. I’ve heard some of the story continues in the comics, so I might check those out. Overall, *The Darkness II* is a fun, well-paced action game with satisfying mechanics and a decent story. Just don’t expect a long or fully…

Low-Key I'm obsessed with this series (The Darkness 1/2). I grew up wanting to play it, waited 4-5 years before I could and received them for the Xbox 360. I have emulated The Darkness to PC and bought The Darkness 2 for $3.50. AMAZING! Love it. Buy it. Play it.

I really enjoyed this game, despite me only starting to read the comic earlier this year. It is very accurate to the lore, as best as I can gather. I wish there wasn't an obvious set up for a third game since we know who becomes Angelus. However, I will say I found the game to be enjoyable, albeit a bit repetitive in the gameplay. I wish there was more for us to do in the world, perhaps even have an open world setting where we could see the influences of the choices we make as Jackie E, beyond killing one of our brutes or choosing whether or not to save Jenny in hell. I would recommend this game to those who have read the comic, or simply enjoy a bit of darker tone game. Very much a product of its time. I would give this a 6.5/10.

10/10 Granted this review is purely based on the fact that I somehow got a limited edition from walmart for like 3 dollars in their discount section. Best ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ luck of my life, considering at the time the game had been many years old. The gameplay is stupidly fun. Fun for the price I got? Perfect. For 30 dollars? Worth it for nostalgia maybe, but if it's on sale, I say go for it

Love the visual style, the voice acting, and the character design that makes me say, "I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going." And then it goes there!
