Story
Immortal John is dying. As his last surviving heir, you have been summoned to hear his dying wish. Will he ask you to avenge his death!? To murder all those who have wronged him!!? To bring to fruition his life long plan to topple the ruling elite from within, shattering the balance of power, and ultimately saving the world!!!? Travel around a quiet, rural town - help the locals in their day to day tasks. Wander into the nearby woods - make idle chit-chit with a woman submerged neck-deep in a tiny pond. Climb to an idyllic viewpoint in the mountains, overlooking earth and sea and sky, the natural and the man-made, the eternal mystery held within the infinite depths of the distant horizon - help a man shoot some birds. - Pointing and Clicking – A traditional point and click interface, with a 'verb coin' interaction menu and a simple inventory from which you can drag and drop your preciously hoarded items.
- Renaissance Artwork – Renaissance, Rococo and even a hint of Romanticism, to be a little more precise. Hundreds of paintings, spanning hundreds of years, are all brought together into one consistent world.
- Classical Music – Music by Eduardo Antonello. Period appropriate music that adapts as the story progresses, recorded using real medieval/renaissance instruments.
- Standalone Story – Death of the Reprobate is set in the same world as Four Last Things and The Procession to Calvary, and features some recurring characters/themes, but it can be played independently.
- Highbrow Buffoonery – Lofty subject matter is treated with gleeful flippancy. Gags about butts are taken very seriously. But rest assured, while some of the jokes may be ridiculous, the puzzles make perfect sense! (or at least adhere to a consistent internal logic)

The only game in the trilogy I didn't love. Mainly for two reasons: too much handholding and too much unnecessary dialogue. Still a good game nonetheless. However, what makes me not recommend this is the fact that the humor, where it was actually funny and at times even clever in the previous two games, took a nosedive in this one and is just blatant sex jokes, profanities and shouting in all caps to a point its turning the game into some 13yo's edgy joke. Four Last Things and Procession to Cavalry where actually great games from start to finish, that were more than just joke games. Death of the Reprobate however is just a joke. And a bad one too. Puzzles also took a turn for the worse, mainly due to too much handholding. The second game remains the best, and its a shame the trilogy ends with a low effort butt joke. I already look forward to replaying the first two games, but I know I'll never touch this one again.4 found this helpful
Helping a couple of dudes have butt sex openly in public? It's a thing here. Giving a cow diarrhea and feeding it to children? That's here too. If you're brain is like mine, it's all the things you'd want after looking at a bunch of Renaissance paintings and wondering, "what"? This is the first game from Joe Richardson I've played and it's right up my alley. The concept of taking Renaissance paintings and turning them into an absurd and grotesque narrative point-and-click video game is brilliant and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hilarious. The humor is mostly Monty Python-esque, and while some of it was admittedly a bit "alright-that's-enough" for me personally, it had me and my wife laughing throughout it. I also liked some of the paintings throughout the game enough to look them up as well as the artist, so there's a slight educational component too if you're interested. I've read some comments about the music being too much and while I get it, I think it adds to the chaotic nature of the game. Th puzzles were pretty good overall and if you have trouble you can always go back to the soothsayer to get guidance. I will definitely be checking out more from Joe. The worst one of the three. However, considering that Four Last Things and The Procession to Calvary are absolute masterpieces, it doesn't mean much. This time around puzzles are a bit less interesting, but I think this is still a must play for anyone who enjoyed the other two games.1 found this helpful
Bro. I at first wrote a review for this game that was critical but still gave the thumbs up, but upon reflecting on this game again, actually, I don't think this game warrants a thumbs up. I did like the series, so I think I tried to see it more sympathetically, but in every metric where this game has to stand on it's own, Death of the Reprobate is simply just a very bad, not thought-through game, that has a few good moments here and there. I think the first game, Four Last Things, wasn't as up my alley as the second one, Procession to Calvary - so I will mostly compare to the second one, especially since it's still fresh in my mind. First of all the riddles - except for maybe 2 exceptions - were either laughably easy, and everything was handed to you in obvious ways, or they were so stupid and contrived I wasn't even mad that I asked the in-game guy who solves the riddles for you. (this is about the cow riddle in particular, but I will come back to that one) Second of all, the humour really took a turn for the worse.
