Short and sweet!

DED takes a straightforward idea and turns it into a compact shoot ’em up built around speed, challenge, and an intentionally old-school presentation. Developed and published by L. Stotch and Vladimir Soldatov, it avoids unnecessary complexity in favor of immediate action. Its pixel graphics, 2D perspective, retro styling, and relatively demanding gameplay establish the kind of experience it wants to provide almost immediately. Rather than stretching a simple concept across an oversized campaign, it aims to deliver concentrated arcade entertainment that can be enjoyed across a handful of sessions. The story gives the action a considerably darker motivation than the colorful simplicity of the pixel presentation might suggest. The protagonist’s daughter and son-in-law have been murdered, while his granddaughter has been kidnapped. Armed with only incomplete information about the people responsible, he sets out to rescue her and identify those behind the crimes. It is a grim revenge-and-rescue setup that provides sufficient justification for the violence without turning the game into a dialogue-heavy narrative adventure. DED is a short 2D shoot em up that keeps things very simple. I play as an older man who is trying to find his kidnapped granddaughter after his daughter and son in law are murdered. The story gives the shooting a bit more purpose than I expected from such a small game, even though it is still mainly about moving through levels and dealing with enemies. I like that it gets straight into the action instead of spending a long time explaining everything. The shooting itself is easy to understand but surprisingly demanding. I move around the levels, avoid attacks and use different weapons to deal with the enemies in front of me. The game has a fast pace and I have to stay focused because getting careless can quickly get me killed. I like this kind of old school design because there is not much between me and the actual gameplay. I can start playing almost immediately and spend my time learning enemy patterns and getting better at surviving. The pixel art also fits the game nicely.
