About DeepStates [VR]
Development for DeepStates is discontinued. Please see the latest announcement for more details.
Wind down in compelling natural environments with dense atmospheres. Let the scenery sink in and whenever you are ready activate the DeepGuide, which uses breathing, humming, spatial sounds and entrainment with brightness-, volume- and haptic modulation, as well as binaural beats to get you deep. After a guided session aspects of the environment and mood will have transformed.
After choosing one of the (currently six) available environments you can explore it using teleport or smooth locomotion. In each environment you can control certain parameters (e.g. time of day) using your thumbsticks / trackpads. Additional controls for image, sound, locomotion, performance, as well as settings for the DeepGuide (e.g. session length, manual or fixed guided tempo) can be accessed via the radial menu. There you will also find additional information regarding the specific controls for each environment and its modes. The application knows three modes: Default, DeepGuide and Afterglow.
In DeepStates \ I combine my passion for using environments to convey feelings and emotions, with my interest in the manifold realm of altered states of mind. For this application I create places that I personally have a strong longing for and which tend to give me this certain vibe, a mixture of 'the joy to be alive here and now' and a feeling of 'melancholia', since all of it will come to an end eventually.
My goal is to create interesting, soothing and deep, meaningful states of being.
I dearly hope that these experiences will provide value for you and enrich your palette of being.
DeepStates \ - Experiences designed to calm your mind and drift away.

- What it is NOT
Don't expect fast-paced action, gamification/quests, huge open-world levels or complex scene interaction (more interactions with the environment are likely to follow though). - Please take a look at the recommended specs and try the demo first to test performance and VR headset/controller compatibility.
This application is resource intensive. - Much care is taken to optimize it, while still trying to keep a decent quality. It's a tight-rope walk - especially with VR. The hope is that you don't have to care too much about technical acpects or performance issues and can just enjoy the application. - If you encounter any issues or have feedback of any sort,
feel invited get in contact via Steam Discussions or Discord before writing a review.
There you can also access more infos about known issues and solutions, change-log and roadmap.

Tried it on a 1070. Minimum requirements is a RTX 2080. I'm a sucker for punishment. Nevertheless, a very unique experience. FYI to the dev; there was no sound for some reason. 9/102 found this helpful
I'm a big of Realms of Flow, so when I saw this was by the same developer i had to get it. I saw the last developer update stating that he wasn't going to work on it any more as this kind of 3D virtual world isn't really what he wants to do. So I was anticipating that this would be OK, but less impressive than Realms of Flow. I was wrong! This one is absolutely astonishing. The different environments aren't very big (though some have more in them than others) and there isn't a vast amount to do in most of them (though the hookah from Realms of Flow makes a welcome appearance in them all). But the environments are incredibly well done. I think they're the most convincing environments I've seen in VR. Even the sand looks completely real. The lighting effects, and different times of day/night in some of them, are extremely well done as well. It all runs very smoothly on my 3090. The guided meditation aspect of the app, and the controls, are rather confusingly done, but personally I don't really use those much. It's enough just to sit and enjoy the environments. This app certainly deserves to be better known.2 found this helpful
Let's be honest, there are hundreds of meditative/dreamlike/trippy-esque titles scattered all throughout Steam. HOWEVER. This game is the real deal. I'm running this on an RTX 4090 and let me tell you, this game REALLY affected me in positive ways. The background music isn't too overpowering and suits each scene extremely well. I found myself in awe just staring up or around each scene as it opened (with many rooms beginning to slowly light up). It's so zen and breathtaking at the same time. I RARELY leave reviews, but this was the game I was looking for, which is currently a couple of bucks. You cannot beat that. Seriously blown away, so kudos to the devs on this masterpiece. (Ignore the playtime, as I mostly play this offline)1 found this helpful
basically a tech demo with some nice visuals, only interesting place was the alien one, worth to "experience" it for like 1€ , lots of effort put into the art and you can tell. cooks my 4090 a bit
DeepStates [VR] is a virtual reality experience developed by Marc Zimmermann and published by EpicScapes that deliberately steps away from conventional game design in favor of immersion, atmosphere, and mental stillness. Rather than presenting objectives, progression systems, or challenges to overcome, it invites players into a series of carefully constructed environments meant to be explored slowly and intuitively. The experience positions itself closer to a contemplative digital retreat than a traditional VR title, appealing to those who value presence and mood over interactivity or mechanical depth. From the outset, DeepStates [VR] establishes its identity through restraint. Upon entering one of its environments, players are not directed by prompts or goals; instead, they are free to move, observe, and simply exist within the space. The environments are naturalistic and expansive, emphasizing scale and realism to enhance immersion. Movement options are customizable, accommodating both teleportation and smooth locomotion to suit comfort levels, and this flexibility makes the experience approachable even for users sensitive to motion in VR. The absence of pressure or urgency allo…
So much potential, but the experience is so horribly optimized that even my 4060 with 14400F processor can't even come CLOSE to loading the scenes at 80 Hz. Unless you have an outrageous setup, don't even bother with this
