Thousands of retro 2D platformers are infesting Steam, and "Dehumanized" is just more pollution in a crowded market of terrible games. There are over 17,000 platformers on Steam, literally thousands (you can go see for yourself if you search for the platformer tag on the store, I'm not kidding). And this is far from being one of the best of those. This is an abandoned Early Access platformer from China that runs on the theory that you don't need to create any content to make a good game, you can just use procgen algorithms instead. So, that bites. Gameplay here is just basic semi-polished platforming/shooting with issues and bugs that will never be fixed. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. This looks a lot like it was designed for consoles, but released on Steam instead by mistake. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed co…1 found this helpful
Game control don't response as should. Game frezzes randomly. Animations look awkful. Very bad game.1 found this helpful
Buggy, poorly translated, and with a janky slow interface. There's no story or reason for anything happening or why the character seems utterly bi-polar in expression. I gave it up after defeating the second boss, upon which ice immediately appeared on the stage and my character was yeeted off screen into non-existence, soft locking the game. It's an unrefined incomplete mess. Avoid.1 found this helpful
Dehumanized is a side-scrolling action roguelite developed by BurningDust Games and published on Steam by SakuraGame. Blending procedural generation, physics-driven combat, and RPG-style progression, the game sets out to deliver a fast-paced survival experience in a world ravaged by catastrophe. Its premise revolves around a devastated Earth transformed by alien meteorites and plague, where mutated creatures roam freely and humanity struggles to endure. This grim backdrop frames the journey of a lone protagonist searching for hope amid biological horror and societal collapse. At its core, Dehumanized embraces roguelite principles. Each run takes players through procedurally generated side-scrolling environments filled with hostile enemies, environmental hazards, and hidden rooms. The randomized layout ensures that no two attempts are exactly the same, encouraging adaptability rather than rote memorization. Movement mechanics are responsive, emphasizing agility through jumping, dodging, and rapid directional shooting. Combat relies on a combination of firearms and interactive environmental elements, with physics playing a noticeable role. Objects can be picked up and thrown, flamma…
DeHumanized is a roguelite side-scroller action-shooter, drawing inspiration from Metroid and The Binding of Isaac. It doesn’t just rely on fast reflexes though, and to survive you’ll be constantly learning how the game world works & picking up powers from enemies and working with the system of physical rules where even small decisions can have subtle effects. Unique progression via enemy beasts... The idea of “taking strength from beasts” is neat; you get both power and (implied) responsibility, as your actions shift the game state. Physics & world rules matter... Environments aren’t just decoration. They respond, interact. That adds depth, forces you to learn and adapt, which is satisfying in the roguelite formula. Atmospheric and rewarding when it clicks... When you understand the mechanics, it feels like pieces click into place. Exploration, danger, and discovery are tied together nicely. Issues: Polish & bugs. As with many Early Access titles, there are issues: freezing in certain transitions, input or control glitches (jumping, etc.). Steep learning curve because the rules are subtle, sometimes vague, its easy to find yourself lost, especially early on, as you figure o…
Played on steam deck. This game is good and plays mostly well. Still early access but no updates since 2019.
