Demon Pit

If you want a pure, mindless arena shooter to vent some frustration, Demon Pit delivers a hit of fast-paced arcade action. You drop straight into a wave-based hellscape armed with classic weapons and a grappling hook that keeps you zipping across the shifting floorboards. Sadly, the novelty wears off quickly because there is only one core arena style and very little enemy variety to keep things fresh. It turns into a repetitive grind long before you feel any real sense of mastery or accomplishment. Fun for about thirty minutes of brainless shooting, but it stays stuck in purgatory.

This was really close to being a good game but just isn't there. The art/animations/environment are all nicely done, as are the OST and sound effects. There's some decent enemy variety and the guns feel satisfying enough to use. There's only one arena but it changes with each wave of enemies. The biggest issue is that it isn't randomized at all. Every time you play, the waves are in the exact same order. You receive the weapons in the same order, the arena changes the same way, and the enemies spawn the same. For a game emphasizing replayability with highscores this kills it. By just my fourth time dying, I already was getting tired of doing it all over again. The movement is lacking. Running around and using the "teleport" mechanic were good, but jumping is terrible. You have this tiny little hop that is essentially useless. On wave 14/15, the ammo pickups are placed in a spot where you need to jump and it becomes very noticeable how bad it is. For full price, I'd say it's probably not worth it and there isn't enough content to justify it. On sale for -85%, it can provide a decent hour of entertainment or be a short time killer. I only played about twenty minutes but there is already more than enough to say about the gameplay. First off, the FPS is locked to 60 and to my knowledge nobody has figured out how to lift the cap. On top of that, the optimization is so bad that even though the graphics remind you of boomer shooters, sometimes it dips below 30 FPS which is completely inexcusable for a game this modern. The crosshair is poorly visible, the HUD is microscopic if you run 4K and the desktop cursor sometimes shows up in the game. Then there's the actual gameplay. The biggest problem is that it's just boring, tedious and unsatisfactory. The enemy AI is brainless, enemies are too few yet too tanky (two close double barrel shotgun shots often fail to take out a single gunner enemy), grenades do not explode on impact, you're not given enough ammo in the later waves so you end up having to shoot everything with your pistol, the blue plasma gun has projectiles that curve if you move, lava pits are a complete noob trap because you have no idea which waves are going to have them, etc. There is nothing new under the sun here, just a mediocre wave-based arena shooter with bad optimization and boring gam…

Game becomes more and more boring each wave, leaving you killing one strong enemy left on the arena with a pistol for 5 minutes at the end of 23+ wave.

1)Game has annoying input lag. FOV and sensitivity settings don't help. 2)FPS will not got above 43 in game at any resolution 720p-1440p(RX 9070 xt). 3)The fact that less than 15% of players cannot reach level 20 tells you that this game either sucks or is too hard. 4)Only one map that changes configuration. You feel like you're playing a demo. 5)Grapple is a waste of a mechanic in this game. Rather would have a secondary weapon option instead.

This game would be cool if it came out 20 years ago, or ran on super duper low end hardware. If it had local co-op, I'd say it's a must have. But it doesn't, so it isn't.
