About Depths of Peril
Depths of Peril is a single player action RPG (role-playing game) with strong strategy elements. You play as a faction leader protecting the barbarian city, Jorvik, by destroying threatening monsters and completing quests. At the same time, you compete with rival factions to see who will rule the city. Barbarians choose their leaders by fighting to the death!
As a faction leader, you must deal with rival factions through diplomacy, trade, and in time, war. Between battles and raids against other barbarian factions, you build the most powerful faction possible, to withstand your enemies. Building the power of a faction involves exploring a fantasy world, slaying dangerous monsters, solving quests for the city, avoiding deadly traps, and plundering loot to share within your faction.
But in this world, actions actually have consequences, so take care. Annoying the powerful and aggressive Legion of Fear faction will cause them to declare war and destroy you. Ignored Orc uprisings in the Black Forest will cause even more trouble. Protect ally covenants that are being raided, because friends are hard to come by.

Please for the love of God, remaster this or find a way to give it a sequel with multiplayer. To this day no game has really nailed this formula anywhere near as well.6 found this helpful
childhood classic, the faction system was ahead of its time i would love to see a remaster of this.2 found this helpful
Depths of Peril is one of those rare action-RPGs that refuses to sit neatly in a single genre box. Developed and published by Soldak Entertainment, it blends fast-paced hack-and-slash combat with faction rivalry, political maneuvering, and emergent world simulation. What might look like a Diablo-style indie ARPG at first glance quickly reveals itself to be something more experimental: a dynamic world where your hero is only one part of a larger struggle for dominance among competing barbarian covenants. This blend of action and strategy gives the game a personality all its own, and even years after release, it still stands out as a bold and inventive take on established RPG conventions. The central premise revolves around the city of Jorvik, where multiple covenants vie for leadership. You play as the chosen champion of your own covenant, responsible both for safeguarding its lifestone—your faction’s heart and anchor—and for driving the group toward victory. While you venture out into the wilderness to complete quests, defeat monsters, and collect loot, rival covenants are doing the same in real time. They level up, recruit followers, forge alliances, and even declare war. This dy…2 found this helpful
Action RPG with diplomacy. A little bit obscure and clunky, but it is still worth playing as it has some mechanics that I didn't see in other games.1 found this helpful

Depths of Peril is a unique beast. It's a mix of a Diablo style hack and slash and a town/clan building sim. Almost everything is randomly generate givng a unique playthrough everytime. The graphics are a bit dated but, they are nice and bright and the sound is top notch! It can be a bit of a time sink but, that's a good thing in my book! All in all it's a must buy for any serious gamer. There is really nothing else like it. Not even the other soldak titles which are all great in there own ways.
