Descent of the Hunted is a psychological horror Visual Novel where the player controls the monster stalking a poor, tormented soul to whatever end awaits her. Your choices determine the nature of the beast and its physical make up. Her fate is in your hands.
Inspired by transgressive horror like The Babadook and The Lighthouse and taking narrative cues from story-driven classics like Disco Elysium, Descent of the Hunted explores coping with trauma in our modern world of isolation and electronic pacifiers. How little one must do to appear to be managing. How anonymous our suffering. In such an environment, does it really matter if the monsters are outside our minds or within?
CONTENT NOTES: The horror content is unnerving but not gory or startling and a play through of a single route takes about an hour and a half. There are three routes and four endings to explore, plus achievements for different play styles.

Megan is deeply depressed. Her life has been going in a downward spiral. There are people that care and try to help her but it can be so hard to see and accept it. Because of the monster in her head. Whispering. Clouding her mind. Trying to weaken and feed on her. As the monster, make choices on how will you accomplish your task. 3 endings. 15-20 minutes long visual novel. This is kind of why I love playing games. Getting to experience something that I would never be capable of (as a cis man, anyways), and... damn. It makes me feel for those going through the very things depicted in this. Wonderful, eye opening game. Thank you.1 found this helpful
This game has a distinct take on the VN genre, and reminds me a little of Slay the Princess in the way that it plays with perspective and subverts expectations regarding the protagonist. That being said, Descent of the Hunted is its own game with its own style- the art in particular struck me throughout my play through. In my opinion, the thing this game does best is realistically and uncomfortably depict the grieving process. There were several times where I had to stop because even while playing as "the monster" i couldn't willingly subject the protagonist to some of the torments on offer. Even with this discomfort though, the game remains tasteful and well written. Lovely little purchase.
An amazing visual novel that explores really dark and difficult subject matter. And it does it near perfectly. The story is both tense and told respectfully. It can really put off the player but that's what it's going for. The visuals are unique and quite fluid for a visual novel. Overall a great psychological horror game that I highly recommend TW: Suicide, Miscarriage, Death
Stellar and thoughtful visual novel which describes unpleasant and dark topics. Also had a problem getting one of the achievements, but they were super helpful and responsive on their Discord server.
"...maybe I'll be something better when I wake up..." played this because i was really sad gotta say, still sad but in a new fun introspective way :-) played like the silly depression voice does in my head and got the parasite ending and damn if that isnt accurate!! i feel like the monster is like an allegory for mental illness which is fire.,.. i will def. be completing the other endings :D
