What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise this baseball simulation for its extensive historical content spanning 119 seasons with authentic rosters and schedules, easy customization and modding, and solid gameplay that compares well to other classic sims like APBA and Strat-O-Matic. However, new users frequently encounter significant interface and setup issues, including confusing menus, lineup creation problems, and bugs that can prevent games from launching, with some players finding the learning curve steep enough to warrant refunds despite the game's underlying quality.
I have played many sports sims over the years (especially baseball) and this one is the best I've played. It is easy to mod with parks and player photos, everything is customizable, and it is a great value. There are 119 seasons (called "libraries" in the game) from the aughts all the way through 2025, along with five "All Decade" libraries and four "Rookie" libraries, all included for the price. The gameplay is text based, no flying baseballs and running players on the field, but that's what I'm used to and the way I like it. The best part to me, is that every one of the 119 seasons has the "as played" transactions, schedule, lineups and pitching rotations, which is great for replays, and really streamlines game set-up. Just a few clicks and I'm back to 1977 managing the Dodgers. I'll do better than that Lasorda guy. :) There is also an "Encyclopedia" feature, which I haven't tried yet. I think it's so you can play seasons back-to-back and combine the stats for multiple years, sorta like "Franchise Mode". Maybe someone who has used it can correct me on this, if I'm wrong. I would encourage anyone who is thinking about buying this to check out the "Digital Diamond Dugout" Tapat…2 found this helpful
Horrible interface. Finally figured out how to get teams loaded, and a game scheduled, but can't play it. I can't start a game without a lineup, and there are no options to add a lineup. Chatgpt tells me there are known issues concerning this, yet there still charging me for something I can't use. Supposedly there's a fix if I want to do some programming, which I don't. That's why I spent $30 for someone else to do it. Uninstalled and refund requested.1 found this helpful
Great game to use as a companion/stat tracker for any replays you want to play on your tabletop. With some work you can also create custom seasons/projects and let DDBB help you manage them. Oh, and it has a great game engine on its own if you want to use that too!1 found this helpful
Absolutely a great baseball simulation game with plenty of stats and data. I wish there were similar games for football and basketball with libraries from the 60s, 70, and 80s1 found this helpful
Very thorough and well researched; lots of options for gameplay . . . what's not to like?1 found this helpful
A solid entry into the baseball sim field. I've played APBA and Strat-O-Matic all my life and have gotten into OOTP and Action PC baseball over the last few years. This game easily holds its own among that group. I'm replaying the 1981 strike season as my first effort with the game and after suffering through 29 games with the godawful Twins (10-19 at the present time and feeling great to be even at that level), I can honestly say the only thing I don't care for in the StatisPro model is two-out baserunning. When I have a good runner at first base and he's given a 40 percent chance to score on a double off the center field fence with two outs, something needs tweaking. You can adjust chart results in the editor but apparently not baserunning results, which is unfortunate. Otherwise, the variety of seasons, ease of importing player pictures, and statistical package are all pluses.1 found this helpful
