Dimension Drive

Jumped through dimensions and accidentally had coffee with a version of me who still believes in socks with sandals.

There's a reason that 3 of my 4 achievements for this game are golden: No one playing past the first few levels due to cheap deaths and extreme early-game difficulty. I came back to the game after being frustrated with it--decided to give it a second chance--but no. When a boss can instantly fire a unibeam-style death ray at you without *any* notice whatsoever, that's when I've had enough. There was no visual or audio cue at all. I was just shooting down the middle, and suddenly, I was dead. This game could have been really cool, but evidently, it's just another example of a great idea that's been poorly executed. What a shame.

Arcade buster - Yes feels like the game hasnt been testet enough. Too many bad/unbalanced areas, Leveldesign without keeping in mind, that you control too screens. Dimension Drive, developed and published by 2Awesome Studio, is a vertically scrolling shoot ’em up that attempts to refresh the long-established arcade shooter formula with an inventive twist. I hate giving this a thumbs down because all of the peripheral stuff is great. The presentation is great; it looks good, it sounds good, everything is packaged well, especially for an indie shmup. The main gimmick is interesting and I like that the energy meter forces you to keep switching instead of just hanging out one screen the entire time. All of that stuff is great, but I can't recommend this because the actual shmup part just does not feel good. I don't know if it's input lag or momentum, but the ship movement just feels weird and euroshmuppy to me. There are times where I'm fighting a sub-boss on one screen and see an area I want to jump to on the other screen and it's just annoying trying to make precise movements like that. Which is a shame; if the actual shmup part felt tight and precise I think this would be a unique and enjoyable game with an unusual but fun gimmick.
