Liquid Space Dimension

Liquid Space Dimension is not bad, it will definitely challenge you! However the game seemed slow at times and the controls seemed annoying, I did not try Liquid Space with a controller, but I am sure it would make it much less frustrating. Good, not great. Worth the price. The game holds potential but overall it's in my oppinion still a work-in-progress... at least it should be. Since the steam page mentions nothing about early access, I would not hold my breath for major improvements though. Liquid Space is heavily inspired by Star Fox (in my opinion mostly Star Fox 64). Instead of being a one to one recreation of those games and their mechanics it adds neat elements on top. Weapon charging is a major factor in how you play Liquid Space. Next to your basic blaster you are given three different charge shots. A precise and penetrating long distance rifle shot, a spread out short distance shotgun burst shot and a 4x missile lock-on. It is relatively easy to spontaneously swap between them and utilise each for different situations. The shotgun burst is good for downing small enemy groups that are about to fly past you, focusing on this weapon leads to quick and hectic flying action that feels very satisfying in seeing dozens of enemies being wiped out in short succession. Lock onto multiple enemies by holding A and right trigger twice. Attack bosses by using other skills. I like that when you press the pause button, all of your moves are there to remind you what to do. Very colorful. Love the dolphin boss flying around the neon city. Free mode gives this game a big jump in purchasability since in free mode you can start off by playing any map. Could not figure out controls. Secondary charge used to break barriers does not work on controller for me. Lame to require a 2 button combination to execute it.

Nice, stylized, and pretty fun. Short experience, but I felt like I got my moneys worth and with the fun I got from it. Those who really enjoy On-Rails Shooter games, might enjoy this one. It goes from mostly On-Rails to Open Flight in several spots. There is some replay value if one really likes to replay levels to get a higher score and grade.

Disclaimer: I recieved a copy of Liquid Space Dimension for free through my Steam Curator page. Liquid Space is a low-poly space shooter with both on-rails and free-flight sequences that take a lot of cues from the SNES and N64-era Starfox games. It has colorful visuals and an interesting soundtrack, and the controls are mostly competent. It is however noticibly faster then Starfox, which creates some issues with the gameplay. In addition, the game's difficulty curve is a 90 degree upwards right angle. The first five or so levels are very easy as compared to the game's inspirations, but my progress came to a screeching halt at the boss called the "Supreme Inhibitor", who throws a lot of geometric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at you and is only vulnerable to damage for a few seconds after destroying small crystals that are blocked by said ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, which will also quickly shave off your health. Overall the game feels a bit amateurish. If they give it a serious difficulty rebalance I'd be willing to give it another chance, but for now if you are looking for this kind of experience, EX-Zodiac might be more to your liking.
