About Dolven
Dolven is a narrative-driven tactical RPG where combat fuses party-based skills with poker-style card combos and deckbuilding. In this dark fantasy world, you command a band of mercenaries against the Dungeon Master who rules each cursed dungeon. Battles unfold on a grid-based battlefield where positioning, timing, and strategy are as important as the hand of fate you hold.
Your mercenaries wield swords, bows, and spells through traditional RPG abilities with additional buffs coming from the cards in your hand.Form poker-style combinations called a 'Rune Combo' such as pairs, straights, and flushes to earn extra mana with which to unlock more cards, empowering your party to turn the tide of battle. Every duel is more than a clash of steel—it’s a contest against the Dungeon Master himself, with you as his opponent, that's two dungeon masters facing off.
Will you find the girl—or lose her to the darkness?
Will you honor your oath—or betray it for a greater cause? The choice will be yours.
Arrange Mercenary cards on the Pillars to form hands like pairs, flushes, or straight flushes. The in-game Compendium lists every possible combo and the rewards they bring. As you battle through Dolven’s maze of dungeons, you’ll customize your deck and collect gear to prepare for deadlier enemies ahead.

It is not a bad game. I really like the poker-like card system, I do. My problem is that apart from that the game remains too shallow. Each char has just two unique skills that do not develop any further. The items you equip have just the basic attributes that increase, but that is it. There seem to be no events, no further levelling or development. True, I played only 1 hour, but I am afraid the battles will get just too repetitive. If this game was priced much lower, I would give it thumbs up, but still I doubt I would spend even 10 hours playing. With the current price I am sorry, but I refund and try something else.3 found this helpful
Dolven is a tactical turn-based dungeon crawler with roguelike elements, deck building, and multiple endings. Battle Dungeon Masters and rescue the missing girl. Gameplay: https://youtu.be/gAbFFr56e0A The gameplay combines turn-based strategy and roguelike card game mechanics. You control a party of heroes. Your goal is to explore dungeons, kill enemies, and find the girl. Each hero has turn point bar, health bar, three skills, and inventory. Heroes' stats are affected by equipment and spells cast by cards and enemies during combat. You can reforge items, change your party composition and deck in the blacksmith's room. Using cards requires mana, which regenerates with each turn. You can gain additional mana by forming certain poker-style combinations called 'Rune Combos'. + Dark fantasy atmosphere. + Addictive gameplay with a low entry barrier. + 7 endings. + 6 hero classes. + Character customization. + Colorful fatalities. + Various loot and skills. + Global leaderboard. + Achievements.2 found this helpful
I first tried Dolven at PaxAUS in 2023. It was in very early stages, but I saw potential and I enjoy this genre and style of gaming. I played the demo in 2024 as well. This review is just on the full release in 2025.
The Good
----------- This pseudo deck builder, turn based tactical rpg dungeon crawler is fun. While each of the 6 classes only have 3 abilities, the deck modification adds randomness to each battle. The way combos work requires you to plan the cards you play against the enemy "Dungeon Master" where both strategy and luck come into play. Loot is randomized and plenty to diversify how you want to build your team, or you can just blindly go with whatever the game tells you is an upgrade with the green chevron/arrows. I actually enjoy the little voice acting bits of the bosses and they didn't get annoying to me even after 40+ hours of gameplay. You can beat the game a lot quicker than I did, but I was having fun exploring everything and experimenting with cards, strategies, and class combinations. It is easy to get into and rules are laid out in the compendium.
What Can Be Improved (In my opinion)
-------------------------- I have submitted …1 found this helpful
+Player choice +Music is decent -Cumbersome and sluggish to play, even with maximized game speed (2x) -Poor UX/UI -Facepalm-level "story" as intro -SFXs = Disappointment.
i'm new to turn-based deck building games, but after playing a demo at comicon, the story and animations got me hooked. Now that the game has released it did not dissapoint. For me, its also been a great introduction to a huge and evolving genre. There were a few bugs on release day (esp on steam deck), but they seem to have been fixed now and it all runs pretty smoothly.
great game
