First off, the game has no multiplayer anymore, as the servers were shut down; no local functionality as well. Thankfully, the entire game was patched and rebalanced to compensate for that. For some reason though, the devs didn't update the Store page to indicate this change. While Dragon Spear is clearly inspired by Dragon’s Crown (including the fan service), there are differences however. Dragon’s Crown is a typical beat’em up with combos being the primary focus, and levelling and equipment being a bonus. Dragon Spear is much more gear dependent and focused on abilities with the core loop being effectively chaining the abilities and managing their cooldowns while occasionally basic attacking. So an MMO, essentially. A mobile game with no microtransactions aside from character DLC. DS is a dopamine factory for me. 72 short story levels separated into 8 episodes, each can be finished in less than 2 minutes, no bullsh*t, all action. Each episode is unique with its theme, monsters, and a themed armor set for every class. Side modes with multiple raid bosses ranging from easy to you-better-have-proper-gear-or-you-are-done; a 50 level arena with the last level being arguably the …7 found this helpful
When you begin the game, your first choice is selecting a hero. Initially, three characters are available by default, each with unique playstyles and attributes. For those who want more variety, an additional set of three characters can be unlocked through DLC purchases. Every hero is defined by four primary statistics, including attack power and speed. Alongside these, a fifth attribute, hero difficulty, provides a sense of how challenging it will be to progress through the game. Once you’ve made your selection, the story unfolds through that hero’s perspective. Although the overarching narrative is the same for everyone, centered around the ongoing battle against Nightmares, a group of deadly bosses, the details shift depending on who you play. Dialogue, descriptions, and subtle bits of lore may differ from character to character, giving you incentive to replay with different heroes if you want to uncover every hidden detail. However, switching mid-game isn’t seamless. While you can start a new run with another hero, progress is not shared, meaning you’ll have to begin their journey from scratch if you want to see things through their eyes. The core gameplay firmly belongs t…3 found this helpful
For a port of a korean mobile Vanillaware beat 'em up knockoff, this is really not bad. The problem is, this is a port of a korean mobile Vanillaware beat 'em up knockoff. Low-res textures, incorrectly cropped sprites on some of the enemies, endless grinding, repetitive combat. If the dev/publisher cared a little bit more and polished their game further, this could've been a great beat 'em up RPG on Steam, because the combat animations are really well made and satisfying, the equipment/customization system is honestly impressive and the main characters' designs are incredible. tl;dr Had fun grindin' and stylin' even with the issues of a mobile game ported to PC. Surprisingly food game that appeals to people who hold nostalgic, warm views of the likes of Golden Axe. The characters feel completly different, and playing the storyline is fun - at higher levels, you will be grinding for gear and cosmetic upgrades against boss monsters, which can be a bit repetitive. Looks very nice, even if the at least most of the female characters are quite blatantly sexy - fanservice galore with plenty of T & A. Not great, but at least decently good, brainless reflex fun.
I really like this kind of game with medieval style
The Dragon Spear were the friends we made along the way
